Elton John is a musician /composer that had hits on the top 40 charts every year between 1970 and 1996. He is well known for his theatrical stage appearances with his elaborate costumes and flamboyant personality. Some of his big hits include "Rocket Man", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Donít Let the Sun Go Down on Me." However, his biggest hit song was "Candle in the Wind", which was originally written about Marilyn Monroe, but has become a mega hit since Elton performed it at the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997.

In early 1998, he was named favorite male adult contemporary artist at the American Music Awards, and at the 1998 Grammy Award ceremonies, he took home the trophy for best male pop vocal for "Candle in the Wind 1997." And to top it all off, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 for his achievements in music and contributions to charity.
