Edmonton Oilers information, Founded in 1972 the Edmonton Oilers are a part of the NHL's Northwest division in The Western Conference. They are one of the most successful NHL franchises in history, winning five Stanley Cups in six years from 1983-1990. In those Cup years the Oilers boasted one of the most talented lineups in the league with players like Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.
Aside from their finals appearance in 2006 (when they lost in a thrilling 7-game series to the Carolina Hurricanes), the Oilers lately have not been too successful. For the past three years they haven't been able to finish higher than fourth place in their conference. Last season they finished with a 38-35-9 record, resulting in another year that would only climax in the regular season. They are led by Ethan Moreau along with Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky. For 2010 the Oilers will have a tough road ahead, but they do show the abilities to upset a few of the top teams in the league.
