Dropkick Murphys information, In 1996, The Dropkick Murphys formed creating a new sound in the Boston music scene. Their music, often referred to as Punk Rock with a taste of Irish Folk, attracts large hometown crowds in New England. The band is made up of seven members and some of their instruments include an accordion and bagpipes.

The Dropkick Murphys made their presence felt in the Boston sports world by performing at numerous Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins venues. Their hit song, Tessie, helped spark the Fenway faithful to come alive in October of 2004 and became the Boston Red Sox official anthem in route to their historic 2004 World Series Championship victory. Tessie was also featured in the motion picture, Fever Pitch which starred Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. The Murphys song "Shipping Up To Boston,” based on an unreleased poem by Woody Guthrie, has become a soundtrack of sorts for the city. Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon warms up to the song, and many local sports teams use it at events.

The band has definitely played some notable shows this past year. On April 22, 2009, the Dropkick Murphys joined Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band onstage in Boston for his Working on a Dream Tour, playing 'Glory Days' and 'American Land.' During the encore one of the band members proposed to his girlfriend Diana onstage, which was following by the Springsteen song 'So Young And In Love.' On June 16, 2009 the band opened up for Aerosmith at the Comcast Arena in Mansfield Mass, in a "Hometown Heroes" concert. They later joined Aerosmith onstage to perform "Dirty Water." They are currently planning a U.S. Winter Tour starting in California this coming November.
