It’s hard to believe that Dane Cook, famous for his outlandish standup comedy style, recently named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People”, used to be a shy teenager. Before starring in eighteen movies, before the tours, fans, and record sales, Dane does admit that he was afraid to speak up. However, speaking comes easy now to this successful Boston native. As does touring, energetic on-stage performances, keeping in constant touch with fans, and winning over a nation with his quirkiness.
Dane Cook got his humble beginnings in Boston on the local comedy circuit at the age of eighteen. Since then, his career has skyrocketed to the point of nationwide recognition. He was one of the first entertainers to leverage the use of the popular website Myspace.com for promotional and networking purposes. He currently has over two million friends through this network. In addition, Cook also used $30,000 of his savings early on in his career to launch his own website: DaneCook.com.
Dane is well known for staying connected to his fans. He often writes blogs about his touring experiences and other recent events and takes time out of his busy schedule to answer most of his fans’ e-mails and letters. This dedication has earned him a phenomenal fan base. Due to this widespread success, his two CDs (Harmful If Swallowed and Retaliation) have faired extremely well. The first CD, showcasing his standup material, is certified platinum, and the follow-up CD has reached double-platinum status.
