Information
The Cleveland Indians are one of the charter members of the American League. They currently play in the AL Central Division. Although they were successful in the 1990's the Indians haven't won a World Series since 1948. They have 2 World Championships overall. They have 5 AL Pennants and have won the Central Division 6 times from 1995-2001.
In 2007 the Indians came out successful winning their division. After a disappointing run in 2006 Cleveland turned to veteran leadership, signing Trot Nixon and David Dellucci. With their help the Tribe finished with a 96-66 record, moving on to their first playoff appearance since 2001.
Grady Sizemore received the Gold Glove award and CC Sabathia won the Cy Young despite coming up short in the playoffs. They started their post-season run by defeating the New York Yankees 3-1 in the ALDS. They continued on to the ALCS only to lose to the Boston Red Sox in 7 games.
Due to injuries the 2008 Indians finished 81-81 for the season and failed to make the playoffs. Power hitters Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez are likely to return for the 2009 season. If they can come back and stay healthy, the Tribe should look to have a great season.
