Information

Cleveland Browns information, The Cleveland Browns joined the NFL in 1950, during the AAFC/NFL merger. Cleveland has a rather strange history due to the events in 1995. In that year, owner Art Modell declared his intent to move the team to Baltimore, due in large part to the team's financial problems. Cleveland city officials, however, had other ideas. There was no way they were going to let this franchise leave the city. The city officials arrived at a settlement with the NFL. While the players, coaching staff, front office, and owner were relocating to Baltimore, the copyright for the name, uniform, and colors would remain in Cleveland. Art Modell would have to change the name of his team, and Cleveland would have to have a team ready to enter the NFL by 1999.

So began the new Cleveland Browns franchise in 1999. Since 1999 the Browns have not seen too much success. They have reached the playoffs only one time, in 2002, and were sent home by the Steelers after the first game. The Browns are now on their fourth head coach in six years. Chris Palmer was the first in 2000, followed by Butch Davis, then former University of Miami head coach, Terry Robiskie, and finally Romeo Crennel who took over in 2005.

Romeo Crennel signed on with the Browns after winning 3 Super Bowls in 4 years with the New England Patriots as their defensive coordinator. Crennel helped the Browns improve to a 10-6 record in 2007. Despite barely missing the playoffs, six players represented Cleveland in the Pro Bowl including starting quarterback Derek Anderson. Things were looking up until an injury full 2008, where the Browns finished with a dismal 4-12 record. The Browns went through three quarterbacks (Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, and Ken Dorsey) who all were lost to injury before hiring Bruce Gradkowski. Crennel and GM Phil Savage were fired and replaced by coach Eric Mangini and George Kokinis. The Browns drafted center Alex Mack of California with the 21st overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. With three second round picks, the Browns drafted Ohio State wide receiver Brian Robiskie, Georgia wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, and Hawaii linebacker David Veikune.

The Dog Pound' as their loyal fans are called, are hoping that the Browns will eventually make a Super Bowl appearance, as they are one of only 6 teams in the NFL never to have made it. To add insult to injury, they are also one of only three teams that were in existence before the first Super Bowl never to have made it.
