Buffalo Sabres Information

The Sabres were founded in 1970 as an expansion team in Buffalo, NY. They have no Stanley Cups but have won the East Conference three times. In the 2006 and 2007 seasons, franchise player Chris Drury led the Sabres to reach the Eastern Conference finals. Both times they fell short of reaching the Stanley Cup, losing to the Hurricanes in 2006 and to the Senators in 2007. After the '07 campaign, Drury was lost to free agency and signed with the New York Rangers. Without him the 2008 Sabres finished fourth in the Northeast division and did not qualify for the playoffs.

The 2009 Sabres finished with 41 wins, but it wasn't enough for them to make it into post-season play. To make improvements for 2010 the Sabres agreed to terms with Andrej Sekera on a multi-year deal, and also signed Clarke MacArthur to a one-year contract. They later picked up Mike Grier, Steve Montador, and Joe DiPenta. They ended the season in third place, missing the playoffs. In the 2011-2012 campaign the Sabres began the season in part of the NHL Premiere series for the first time. The team began the season relatively strong but collapsed after a game against the Boston Bruins. They ended up taking last place in the Eastern Conference, losing the last two games of the regular season and falling three points short of a spot in the playoffs.
