Boston Celtics information, Easily one of the most successful franchises in NBA history, the Boston Celtics are contenders once again. With the addition of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett the Celtics are now among the favorites to win the East in 2007-2008.

The Boston Celtics have won 16 NBA Championships. In one stretch from 1959-1966 the Boston Celtics won 8 consecutive NBA Championships. The streak of 8 consecutive titles is a record not only for the NBA, but all sports in U.S history.

The Championships of the 50's and 60's were due in large part to the efforts of NBA and Celtic legends Bill Russell, K.C. Jones and coach Red Auerbach. It was during these 'golden years' that the intense rivalry between the Lakers and Celtics was born. Between 1959 and 1966 these two teams met in the NBA Finals 6 times. Overall the two teams have met 10 times in the Finals.

The Celtics weren't truly dominant again until a stretch in the 80's. Led by superstars Larry 'Legend' Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale the Boston Celtics went on to play in 5 NBA Finals, winning in 1981, 1984, and 1986.

Although the Celtics captured the Division Championship in 2004-05, they've struggled in recent years to live up to their legacy. Under current GM Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers, the Boston Celtics hope to return their storied franchise to glory. With a good mix of veterans like Paul Pierce and exciting young players like Al Jefferson, the Celtics are optimistic about their chances in the near future. Hopes were high for a #1 lottery pick after a dismal 06-07 season, but as fate would have it, the Celtics drew the #5 pick. Turns out it was for the best after all. The Celtics then acquired Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, instantly transforming the Boston Celtics into a legitimate contender.
