Longtime R&B-pop singer-songwriter Mariah Carey is still going strong with plans to kick off the New Year with a string of performances across the U.S. starting January 2nd at the Borgata Event Center in Atlantic City, NJ. She is also scheduled to headline at the Madison Square Garden in New York City December 31st.
The “Angels Advocate Tour” is designed to further promote her 12th studio album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” After its release in September of 2009, the lead single “Obsessed” went on to reach the #7 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Mariah is expected to stop at the Wang Theatre in Boston, MA on January 30th before hitting up the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, PA the following night.
The 39-year old Carey over the course of her career has sold over 175 million albums, singles and videos worldwide. In 2000 she was named the best-selling female pop artist of the millennium. Billboard magazine ranked the veteran sensation at #6 on their all-time best artists list.
Mariah first hit mainstream success with the release of her 1990 self-titled album with Columbia Records. Popular jazz singer-songwriter Norah Jones just recently announced dates for her upcoming 2010 U.S. spring tour. Over the course of nine weeks she will be headlining at major venues in cities that include Kansas City, Louisville, Indianapolis, Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, and Nashville. She’ll be opening on Friday, March 5th at the Brady Theater in Tulsa Oklahoma. Jones is later set to arrive at the Citi Performing Arts Center – Wang Theatre in Boston, MA on Thursday, March 25th. The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA will mark the final tour stop on Saturday, May 15th.
The talented Brooklyn native is most well known for her 2002 Diamond studio album “Come Away With Me,” featuring the #1 single “Don’t Know Why.” In 2003 she took home three Grammy Awards for “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance,” “Record of the Year,” and “Song of the Year.” Jones will be sure to showcase material from her latest studio album “The Fall” in next year’s tour. “The Fall” debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 after its release this November. Stand-up comedian Lewis Black is set to tear up the stage at the Wang Theatre Saturday at 8:00 pm, and we still have tickets starting at face value!! He just published his newest book called “Me of Little Faith,” and is in the midst of his “Let Them Eat Cake” nation-wide tour. After tomorrow’s show he has scheduled tour dates in various U.S. cities including Portland (OR), Red Bank (NJ), Oakland (CA), and Las Vegas (NV).
Black has been performing stand-up comedy since 1981. In 1990, a play that Black wrote titled “The Czar of Rock and Roll” debuted at Houston’s Alley Theater. Before each show Black would warm up the crowd with a comedy routine, gaining more confidence in his own material show by show. After a while he changed it up and began performing his own stand-up routines in television and film. Black makes regular appearances on The Daily Show aired on Comedy Central for a skit called “Back in Black.” His comedic style includes rants of mental breakdowns, politics, religion, ridiculing history and cultural trends.

Longtime comedian Steve Martin will be showcasing another talent of his on Wednesday October 7th, at the Wang Theatre in Boston, MA. Martin is known for his latest movies Cheaper by the Dozen and the Pink Panther, but to the surprise of many he is also an established banjo player. His musical talents were first widely recognized when he played on Earl Scruggs remake of “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.” The recording won Best Country Instrumental Performance at the Grammy Awards that following year.

According to their Myspace page, The Pixies will once again get together for a tour this September. The Pixies will be touring in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their 1989 album ‘Doolittle’. The tour is set to kick off in late Summer in Europe with U.S. dates in November of 2009. The band will play the album ‘Doolittle’ in its entirety.

Canadian singing sensation Leonard Cohen is set to hit the Wang Theatre in Boston, MA on May 29th. This concert will be a part of his American spring tour, kicking off April 2nd in Austin, Texas. Cohen is most known for his 1967 album “Songs of Leonard Cohen” and the song “Hallelujah”. Over one thousand renditions of Cohen’s music have been recorded.
