Washington Capitals 2008 Mid-Season Report

Posted by Ace Staff on January 20th, 2008

Recap – There is nothing special about this years Washington Capitals team, to put it simple, they are just your average NHL hockey team. They have one standout offensive threat in Alex Ovechkin who leads the league in goals (38) but after him the next leading scorer on the team in defenseman Mike Green with 14 goals. The defense allows around 3.25 goals a game, which is right around the league scoring average and the team only has one shutout all season. The team has to stop depending on Ovechkin to carry them in the third period and find another player who can be a regular offensive threat. 2nd Half – Unless he suffers an injury, Overchkin will win the league scoring title but will come up short in leading his team to the playoffs. Goaltender Olie Kolzig needs to be more consistent and get his save percentage up around .900% because it is currently at .885 which is the worst in the NHL. Team Name: Washington Capitals (22-21-5) Southeast Division Standing: 2nd place Conference Standing: T-10th place Final Predictions: 3rd in the Southeast Division, 11th in the Eastern Conference
