Van Halen, David Lee Roth Back In the Studio

Posted by Ace Staff on August 12th, 2010

Although Van Halen hasn’t updated the “news” section of their band website since New Year’s Eve of 2009, a recent press release announcing a contract between Warner/Chappell and Eddie and Alex Van Halen states that the band is in fact currently in the studio working on new material with former lead vocalist David Lee Roth. While the idea of Van Halen extending their career is promising, in reality the agreement only confirms that Eddie and Alex Van Halen, two of the original members, will continue to work with the recording company. Nowhere does the press release specify a source verifying the reunion of singer David Lee Roth to regroup with the band to record new material. Warner has since taken the press release down from their website after the statement was left unconfirmed and in the air by Van Halen members. The press release from Warner/Chappell Music of the Warner Music Group, with whom Van Halen extended their agreement, end on the note, “The group is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011.” In 2007, after more than three decades of establishing their catalog as one of the most enduring in the history of popular music, Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With 11 studio albums under their belt, Van Halen is the 19th best-selling group of all time in the U.S., with more than 56 million albums sold in the U.S., 10 of them certified platinum or multi-platinum, six albums that reached No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and two, “Van Halen” and “1984″, achieving diamond certification. Van Halen’s 2008 reunion tour with Roth was a massive success, raking in a total gross of more than $93 million and close to one million in attendance from 74 shows. A new Van Halen album would be the band’s first studio album since 1998′s “Van Halen III,” which featured vocals by Gary Cherone, and the first with Roth since 1983′s “1984,” one of the band’s best-selling albums. It’s just a matter of time until the band confirms what could be the most highly anticipated album and follow-up world tour of their career.
