Rask, Thomas Lead Bruins to NHL Best in Points

Posted by Ace Staff on February 2nd, 2009

Tuukka Rask was impressive in his first NHL start in nearly 14 months. Rask stopped all 35 of the Rangers shots; earning a shutout in his 4th professional start. The Boston Bruins D was firing on all cylinders – Dennis Wideman deflected an open net shot that would have tied the game up in the final period. Marc Savard provided the only offense of the game, scoring the winning goal with just 22 seconds left in the second period. On Sunday, the Bruins continued their dominance over the rival Montreal Canadiens.  Since beating Boston in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals last season, Montreal has not been able to get a win. Just one week after Tim Thomas got a standing ovation at the Bell Centre (with the Eastern Conference All-Star Team), his usual reception was back. A stellar one-goal, 27 save outing netted him the First Star, and a healthy round of boos. “When I got called out for the first star there, they were booing and that’s the way it should be,” Thomas told the AP. “That’s what rivalries are all about.” Second Star Dennis Wideman is currently on a 6-game point streak, and has 3 goals and 3 assists in that span. The Bruins currently lead the NHL with 81 points. Boston Bruins Tickets are available now!

Celtics Dominate Kings for 9th Straight Win

Posted by Ace Staff on January 29th, 2009

Eddie House shot 8-9 from beyond the arc to score a career high 28 points as the C’s handled the Sacramento Kings 119-100 last night in Boston.  Point guard Rajon Rondo scored 24 points and dished out 28 assists.  Glen Davis, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen scored 14, 14, and 12. Paul Pierce chipped in with eight points and eight assists in his 27 minutes played. After the game Garnett made it a mission to promote Eddie House for the upcoming NBA All-Star events.  “He needs to be in the 3-point contest,” he said.  “That’s what this press conference is about: Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are here to say that we think Eddie House needs to be in the 3-point contest.”  Garnett and Pierce aren’t the only people supporting House, knowing the crowd chanted his name whenever he touched the ball along with giving him a standing ovation when he left the court with 4 minutes left. The C’s gave Sacramento their seventh straight loss as they continue a winning streak of their own.  John Salmons and Jason Thompson led the Kings scoring 22 and 21 points, but their efforts weren’t enough to make it even a close game. Boston’s next test will be January 30th against the Pistons in Detroit.  The Pistons will be looking to end the streak with the Celtics hoping to keep rolling heading into the All-Star break. House Leads the Charge; Celtics Win 6 Straight

Posted by Ace Staff on January 22nd, 2009

Eddie House scored 20 points in the second quarter alone last night in a 98-83 Boston Celtics victory over the Miami Heat.  House shot 7-11 from 3 point range and finished the game with 25.  Ray Allen scored a game high 27 for the C’s, contributing to the teams 15 for 25 3-point shooting percentage.  Kevin Garnett scored 16 points, and pulled down 13 rebounds.  Paul Pierce added 14 points. House, who was with the Heat for his first three seasons in the league says although he’s used to Miami’s American Airlines Arena, his performance didn’t have much to do with the gym itself.  “I don’t think this had anything to do with the building,” he said.  “I was just getting open looks.  We concentrated on moving the ball, and this is what happened.” Dwayne Wade received the NBA player of the month award for December at the half as the Heat trailed the Celtics 57-34.  Wade scored 25 points for Miami followed by Deaquan Cook who finished with 20. Up next for the Celtics is a tough match up tonight against the Orlando Magic; a team currently leading the league with a 33-8 record. The Celtics beat the Magic earlier this season, making this a payback game for Orlando.  Looking ahead Celtics coach Doc Rivers states “We’re obviously not where we want to be but we’re starting to trend in the right direction.” Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Bruins Edge Out Maple Leafs in Shootout

Posted by Ace Staff on January 22nd, 2009

For the first time this season the Boston Bruins found a way to win after trailing going into the 3rd period.  The B’s were down 3-1 after 40 minutes when Dennis Wideman and Zdeno Chara both came up big scoring to send it to overtime.  This set the stage for Michael Ryder to score the shootout winner, keeping the Bruins on top of the league standings with the San Jose Sharks at 73 points. All-Star goalie Tim Thomas finished the game with 31 saves. Reflecting on the game he said he didn’t know if a comeback was possible.  “The only thing that was in the back of my mind was how well we’ve responded to almost every situation this year,” said Thomas.  With this said the Bruins are clear ahead of the rest of the division by 13 points.  Look for the Bruins next at home January 27th as they square off against the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m. Boston Bruins tickets are available now!

Celtics Cruise By Suns

Posted by Ace Staff on January 20th, 2009

The Boston Celtics kept the winning streak rolling at the Garden last night, as they easily handled the Pheonix Suns 104-87.  Rajon Rondo had a big night scoring 23 points and dishing out 7 assists, before he and the rest of the starters sat for the entire fourth quarter.  The game was decided after the first half with a 30 point advantage to the Celtics.  Ray Allen scored 20 points in his 32 minutes; as Garnett and Pierce finished with 16 and 12 respectively. Shaquille O’Neal led the Suns with 16 points, and Nash followed with 12 points and 8 assists.  When asked about the C’s play,  Nash simply stated the Celtics “put on a clinic for us tonight.”  The game brought back memories of the Celtics’ 19 game winning streak earlier in the season. After a recent mid-season drought, they seem to be back in cruise control as they have won 5 in a row.  When asked about their season Pierce stated “I never really thought we lost our confidence. We’re still the defending champions. It’s just a matter of remembering who we are as a team.”  Next the Celtics travel to Florida, facing off against the Heat the 21st, followed by Orlando on the 22nd. Blues Rally, Beat Bruins in Shootout

Posted by Ace Staff on January 20th, 2009

The last five minutes of last night’s Bruins/Blues matchup had more action than more entire games do. Down by a goal, the Bruins rallied to score three goals in under two minutes, giving the B’s a two-goal lead with barely three minutes to go. St Louis would get points on a David Perron power play goal, and a game tying shot by David Backe. After a scoreless overtime period, the Blues shut out the B’s in the shootout to take the overtime win. Even with the loss, the Bruins are tied with the San Jose Sharks for NHL best point standings at 71. Boston Bruins Tickets are available now!

Celtics Dominate Nets Again

Posted by Ace Staff on January 19th, 2009

The last time the Celtics and Nets met, the Celtics made it look easy in a 118-86 rout. Saturday night’s game was no different, with the C’s nearly doubling up on New Jersey in the first half. The Celtics benefited from Rajon Rondo’s near triple double (9 rebounds, 14 assists, and 8 points, along with 2 steals),  solid play off the bench from Leon Powe and Eddie House, and Ray Allen’s 25 point effort. “It was a great start,” C’s coach Doc Rivers told the AP. “It’s one of the things we talked about. If you get off to a good start, it gives you a chance to play well the whole game. I thought the whole team was running well.” The Celtics will host the Phoenix Suns at home tonight at the Garden. Keep your eyes on Shaquille O’Neal’s Twitter feed in case he any enlightening post-game comments. Boston Celtics Tickets are available now!

Celtics Back in Form With Win Over Nets

Posted by Ace Staff on January 15th, 2009

Last night’s 118-86 rout of the New Jersey Nets was just what the Boston Celtics needed.  The win was the third in a row for the Celtics who recently had a 2-7 slump to deal with.  The last three games have seen the Celtics really return to form.  Now at the halfway point of the season the Celtics’ record is 32-9 just two games off of last year’s pace. Paul Pierce did most of the scoring last night for Boston with 22 points total. Pierce went 5-5 on 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter putting the Celtics well out in front of the Nets.  Kevin Garnett added 20 points and 9 rebounds.  Glen Davis added 12 points off the bench. Last night’s loss was the sixth straight for the Nets against the Celtics. They’ll get another shot on Saturday night when Boston visits the Nets in New Jersey.  The Celtics will be back at the Garden on 1/19 to host the Suns.  Celtics tickets are available for this and all remaining 2009 games.
