Thomas, Kessel Back from U.S. Hockey Camp

Posted by Ace Staff on August 21st, 2009

The U.S.A. hockey orientation camp has just recently concluded and players are returning back to their respective hometowns to train for the upcoming NHL season.  The NHL will take a two week mid-season break and allow players under contract to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.  Boston Bruins fan favorite Tim Thomas will be competing for the starting goalie spot against Ryan Miller from the Buffalo Sabres.  Thomas says that the first half of the NHL season is crucial to how things will shape up for the Olympics. “I think I have to play well leading up to the Olympics,” said Thomas, who has represented the U.S. in six world championships. “I don’t take my spot for granted. The way I focus on competition, it’s not me against other goalie. It’s me vs. myself.” Forward Phil Kessel is not a complete lock for the U.S.A. roster, but NHL analysts have made clear that he is a likely candidate for the 2010 games.  Boston fans are hoping for him to suit up for U.S.A. and also for the Bruins this upcoming season.  Although Kessel has emphasized that he would like to stay in Boston, he says that “it’s at a stalemate and I don’t know what’s going to happen. I think it could go either way at this point.” The Bruins are scheduled to face off against the New York Rangers for their first preseason game on Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm. Boston Bruins regular season tickets are available here at!

Celtics Frontcourt Looks Lethal

Posted by Ace Staff on August 17th, 2009

After an injury filled 2008-2009 regular season, the Boston Celtics have done plenty to make sure they have enough depth on the bench heading into 2010.  General manager Danny Ainge stated that “this current group may be the best frontcourt since Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Bill Walton and Scott Wedman played together.  Kendrick Perkins and a healthy Kevin Garnett are expected to dominate the post to start for Boston.  Pressure for these big men has certainly diminished, knowing their frontcourt options between, Sheed, Big Baby, Sheldon Williams, and Scalabrine.  If the Celtics are able to stay healthy and energized going into the playoffs, the city of Boston should have a lot to look forward too.  With the added depth to their frontcourt, it seems as though no team in the East can even match up.  Celtics-Lakers games will serve as nothing short of spectacular with Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum against Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins to start with deep benches filling in.  Boston is looking forward to their first regular season contest against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday, October 27th. Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Leon Powe to Sign With Cavaliers

Posted by Ace Staff on August 11th, 2009

Former Celtics big man Leon Powe is soon expected to close a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers pending his physical.  Powe suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the Celtics first-round playoff series against the Chicago Bulls, and isn’t expected to make a return until this year’s All-Star break.  Boston originally planned to sign Powe once he returned to full health, but the option was eliminated after re-signing Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis along with adding Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams to the roster.  Although the C’s have a complete front court for next season, Leon Powe will definitely be missed.  He served as one of the major players off the bench during Boston’s 2008 run for their 18th championship.  His most memorable game in a Celtics uniform was in game two of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Lakers when he scored 21 points in 15 minutes.  The Celtics will be opening against the Cavaliers for the first game of the season on Tuesday, October 27th.  Their first game at the TD Banknorth Garden is scheduled for the day after against the Charlotte Bobcats. Boston Celtics tickets will be available soon!

Celtics re-sign Big Baby

Posted by Ace Staff on August 10th, 2009

The Boston Celtics announced this afternoon that they have reached a contract deal with forward Glen Davis.  Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.  Celtics President of basketball Operations Danny Ainge spoke out saying “Glen has been a big part of our success for the past two years and we are very excited to have him back.” Davis has spent two seasons with the Celtics; last year averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds per game.  When he took over Kevin Garnett’s starting role , he netted 13 points with 6 rebounds on average. Along with re-signing Davis, the Celtics were able to reach a deal with free agent center/forward Shelden Williams.  The C’s are eager to get back on the court this year, opening up the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday October 27th in Cleveland, OH. Boston Celtics tickets for 2009-2010 will soon be available!

UFC Soon to Arrive in Boston

Posted by Ace Staff on August 10th, 2009

Massachusetts legislation has recently begun the process of opening doors and creating state regulations for mixed martial arts events. When everything passes Ultimate Fighting Championship contests will surely be featured in Boston.  Forty states have already passed laws sanctioning the sport.  The bill will assure that the state collects 4% of ticket-sales revenue for every MMA event that takes place.  For each televised event, the state will collect a maximum $75,000.  “I think that the sport’s growing, and the state is realizing that it is of a veritable financial interest to the state,” said Scott Lockhart (co-owner of MMA gym in Rockland). “I think most people are for it.” In the past year UFC’s popularity has gone through the roof, averaging $3 million in ticket sales.  If the proposed legislation passes, UFC will promote a major event in Massachusetts for the summer of 2010.  The highly popular sport is making its way to Portland, Oklahoma City, and Dallas in the next couple of weeks.  Stay tuned for more information about UFC in Massachusetts. UFC tickets are available now!
