Buchholz Handles Marlins, Sox Snap Losing Streak

Clay Buchholz racked up nine strikeouts while letting up just five hits and one run to lift his Boston Red Sox past the Miami Marlins 2-1 Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The 30-32 Red Sox snapped their recent-four game losing streak, still trailing the AL East leading New York Yankees by 6 1/2 games. (more)

Bruins Extend Contracts for Kelly, Campbell

The Boston Bruins recently re-signed forwards Chris Kelly and Gregory Campbell as confirmed by their agent, Patrick Morris, Monday afternoon. Kelly extended his contract for another four years that will lead him to collect $12 million. (more)

Chad Ochocinco Signs With Dolphins

Veteran wide reciever Chad Ochocinco has found work just four days after being released from the New England Patriots. The Miami Dolphins invited the 3x All-Pro to workout a their facilities and signed him to a deal soon after. Ochocinco, a Miami native, is thrilled to be able to continue his NFL career back in his hometown. (more)

Patriots Sign Gronkowski to Multi-Year Extension

Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots recently agreed on a six-year deal worth $54 million, marking the largest tight end contract in NFL history. The 23-year old All-Pro is coming off a record-setting season where he caught 90 passes for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns. (more)

David Ortiz Leads All-Star Voting at DH

Red Sox veteran slugger David Ortiz is leading the first round of All-Star balloting at his poisition, gaining 1,204,904 votes as DH. The 15-year player is putting up career numbers this seson, averaging .315 with 13 homers and 37 RBI’s. Texas Rangers DH Michael Young is behind Ortiz with 1,049,170 votes. (more)

NFL Will Keep Pro Bowl in 2013

The NFL recently announced that the annual Pro Bowl in Honolulu will continue despite their previous threats to pull the plug. Following this year’s lackluster 59-41 contest in favor of the AFC, players vowed to make the game more competitive if the events were to continue. (more)

Red Sox Beat Verlander, Move Above .500

David Ortiz contributed three hits and two RBI’s to lift his Boston Red Sox past the Detroit Tigers 6-3 yesterday at Fenway Park. Daniel Bard allowed just two runs in five innings to notch the W over Tigers ace Justin Verlander, who let up a scattered 10 hits and five runs in six innings of work. (more)

Celtics’ Avery Bradley Shut Down for Playoffs

Celtics second-year shooting guard Avery Bradley will miss the remainder of the postseason due to an ongoing shoulder injury. He is scheduled to undergo surgery today after fighting through several shoulder dislocations over the past few weeks. The 21-year old was a great defensive presence for the Celtics all season long, who will have to march on without him Saturday night in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden. (more)

Brandon Bass Nets 27, Celts Win Game 5

Brandon Bass scored 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting, outscoring the Philadelphia 76ers himself in the third quarter to lead the Boston Celtics to win 101-85 and take a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The six-year veteran stepped up at a crucial time as the team recognized Game 5 as a must-win situation. (more)

Red Sox Climb to .500, Down Orioles 8-6

David Ortiz ignited the Red Sox offense with a home run to deep right,  sparking a three-run sixth inning to lead Boston past the Baltimore Orioles 8-6 yesterday at Camden Yards. Dustin Pedroia contributed two RBIs and Mike Aviles scored the go-ahead run in the seventh, lifting the Red Sox to their ninth victory in 11 games. (more)
