Bruins Sign Rask to 1-Year Deal

The Boston Bruins and Tuukka Rask have agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. Rask started 22 games in place of starting goalie Tim Thomas this past season, earning an 11-8 record with a 2.05 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. (more)

Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen to Decide July 1st

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge remains hopeful that free agents Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen will be back in Boston at the start of next season. Garnett is currently pondering retirement and both him and Allen will have plenty of offers thrown their way come July 1st when teams can begin negotiations with other free agents. (more)

Red Sox Rally, Top Blue Jays 5-1

Jarrod Saltalamacchia belted a tying solo homer in the seventh inning to spark Boston’s late game rally in Tuesday’s 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. The Sox came through with an additional four runs following Salty’s timely shot to left.  (more)

Kevin Youkilis Traded to White Sox

The Boston Red Sox have traded All Star third baseman Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for utility man Brent Lillibridge and right-hander Zach Stewart. The emergence of 23-year old Will Middlebrooks forced the Red Sox to take action, adding depth to the roster while allowing Youkilis to continue working as an everyday player. (more)

Middlebrooks Homers, Sox Sweep Marlins

Will Middlebrooks belted a two-run homer to center and Daniel Nava drove in Ryan Kalish to score the go-ahead run in the eigth inning, lifting the Boston Red Sox past the Miami Marlins 6-5 Thursday night at Fenway Park. Middlebrooks, who contributed three hits and four RBI’s in total, has been stellar for the Red Sox since his arrival on May 2nd when fellow third baseman Kevin Youkilis went down with a back injury. Bruins 2012-13 Schedule Released

The NHL recently released the full 2012-13 regular season schedule for all 30 teams. The Boston Bruins will begin their season on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers October 11th.  (more)

BCS Commissioners Endorse 4-Team Playoff

The BCS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick met on Wednesday in Chicago and agreed on a four-team playoff format for college football. If the the BCS presidential oversight committee approves the motion in their June 26th meeting in Washington, the new system would be in place for the 2014 season. (more)

Ortiz Powers Sox to Win 3 Straight

David Ortiz ignited the Red Sox offense with a two-run homer in the first inning, leading his Boston Red Sox to win 7-5 over the Miami Marlins last night at Fenway Park. The Sox lineup brought out the big bats to earn their third consecutive victory that also featured home runs by Kelly Shoppach and Cody Ross.  (more)

Red Sox Take 2 of 3 in Chicago

Franklin Morales stepped in for the injured Josh Beckett and allowed just two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts to lift the Boston Red Sox to win 7-4 over the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Wrigley Field. Outfielder Ryan Kalish also delivered for Boston, driving in the go-ahead run with a single to center to spark a three-run seventh inning. The 24-year old was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket before the game after Ryan Sweeney went on the disabled list. (more)

Red Sox Blast Marlins 10-2

Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz all reached base with singles to spark a six-run eighth inning, leading the Boston Red Sox to win big over the Miami Marlins 10-2 last night at Marlins Park. Felix Doubront let up just two runs on three hits and struck out nine. (more)
