Red Sox Trade Kelly Shoppach to Mets

The New York Mets recently acquired veteran catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named. The Red Sox placed Shoppach on waivers and the Mets put a claim on him, intending to utilize the eight-year veteran against left-handed pitchers. (more)

Jason Terry Sees Celtics as Title Contenders

Veteran shooting guard Jason Terry is well known for expressing a great deal of confidence in teams he’s played for, and this year is certainly no different. The Celtics new acquisition has no doubt that Boston will once again be in contention for a title, backing up his statements with a tattoo on his left forearm depicting the Celtics leprechaun balancing the Larry O’Brien trophy. Derek Lowe Sharp in Yankees Debut

Derek Lowe pitched four scoreless innings of relief and allowed just two hits in his New York Yankees debut to help lift his new club past the Texas Rangers 8-2 last night in the Bronx.  David Phelps turned over a 5-2 lead to Lowe in the sixth, letting up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Team USA May Call on Doc Rivers to Coach

USA Basketball just recently capped their 2012 Olympic showcase with a 107-100 victory over Spain to win gold once again. Led by superstars LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant, the team proved that the 2008 games in Beijing were no fluke by handling any and all competition thrown their way. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band will be playing two shows at Fenway Park this Tuesday and Wednesday before rocking out at Gillette Stadium Saturday night. Patriots Edge Saints in Preseason Opener

Backup quarterback Brian Hoyer found Britt Davis for a short pass in the end zone 5:21 into the third quarter, which was all the New England Patriots needed to edge the New Orleans Saints 7-6 in their preseason opener Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. (more)

Tuukka Rask Ready to Claim No. 1 Spot

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask is eager for the 2012-13 regular season to get underway, as he will be the No. 1 option for the Bruins between the pipes this year. Tim Thomas captured most of the media attention in the offseason due to his decision to put his hockey career on hold. The B’s were able to sign Rask to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million soon after. Valentine Views Red Sox as a Playoff Team

Patriots, Saints Begin Joint Practices Today

The New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints will hold their first joint practice today at 1:30 p.m. in anticipation of their preseason game this Thursday at Gillette Stadium. Organized by Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Saints interim coach Joe Vitt, this marks the second time in three years the two teams have held practices together. (more)

Aaron Cook Stellar in Red Sox Win Over Rangers

Aaron Cook let up just one run on six hits through seven innings, leading the Boston Red Sox to coast past the Texas Rangers 9-2 Monday night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox offense got to Texas starter Yu Darvish early, who allowed 11 hits and six runs before being pulled in the bottom of the seventh. Jacoby Ellsbury, Adrian Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia (more)
