The Phillies who own the distinction as the losingest franchise in pro sports history with over 10,000 losses can finally have something to cheer about. The Championship starved city now awaits the winner of the ALCS between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Minnesota Vikings (3-3) 12 Detroit Lions (0-5) 10 – The Lions can’t seem to get anything going as they remain winless after today’s loss to the Vikings.

Tampa Bay Bucs (4-2) 27 Carolina Panthers (4-2) 3 – Despite 242 passing yards, Delhomme couldn’t get the ball in the endzone, allowing Garcia and the Bucs to steal this one.
Indianapolis Colts (3-2) 31 Baltimore Ravens (2-3) 3 - Manning righted the ship today with 3 touchdown passes as the Colts easily handled the Ravens.
Dallas Cowboys (4-2) 30 Arizona Cardinals (4-2) 24 – Romo had 3 touchdown passes but his effort wasn’t enough to overcome the Cardinals in OT.
Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) 24 Denver Broncos (4-2) 17 – Garrard threw for 276 yards in a victory over the Broncos today.
New York Jets (3-2) 26 Cincinnati Bengals (0-6) 14 – Brett Favre’s decent effort was enough to beat the hapless Bengals who now stand winless at 0-6.
St. Louis Rams (1-4) 19 Washington Redskins (4-2) 17 – Losing to the Rams was not what the Redskins needed to do to assert their presence in the NFC East.
Houston Texans (1-4) 29 Miami Dolphins (2-3) 28 – Schaub had a great day with 379 passing yards leading the Texans over the Dolphins.

The Boston Bruins got their 2008-2009 season off to a positive start last night in Colorado, topping the Avalanche 5-4 in a strong offensive effort. The two teams got the offense started early with 2 goals apiece in the opening period. Phil Kessel got it started for the Bruins, scoring the 1st goal of the game with an assist from Patrice Bergeron. For Bergeron the anticipation is finally over. Bergeron missed most of last season due to injury and had to watch as his team advanced to the playoffs without him.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the 3rd period, David Krejci provided the heroics for the Bruins with a game winning goal at the 17:24 mark of the 3rd period. Also scoring for the Bruins last night were Blake Wheeler, Marc Savard and newcomer Michael Ryder. Although far from perfect, Bruins goalie Tim Thomas stopped 35 shots and made some big saves in the final seconds to preserve Boston’s win.
The Boston Bruins will play three more games on the road before their home opener at the TD Banknorth Garden on 10/20 vs the Pittsburgh Penguins. Great Bruins tickets are available for this and all 2008-2009 Bruins games.
The Boston Red Sox have set their pitching rotation for the first 3 games of the ALCS. The Red Sox will start Daisuke Matsuzaka in Friday’s game 1 in Tampa. Josh Beckett will be the game 2 starter, with Jon Lester getting the nod for game 3 at Fenway Park on Monday 10/13. Wakefield gets his first start of the 2008 postseason in game 4 at Fenway Park.
In three games vs the Rays this year, Daisuke is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a .228 Batting Average against him. Josh Beckett did not appear against the Rays in 2008.

The NHL opened its 2008-2009 season in Prague, Czech Republic on Saturday with the New York Rangers playing the Tampa Bay Lightning. The two teams will also play on Sunday 10/5. The opening game went to the New York Rangers 2-1 on Saturday. The Rangers got goals from Markus Naslund and Brandon Dubinsky. This season marks the second year in a row that the NHL has opened in Europe. This years games in the Czech Republic were expected to have extra appeal with Jaromir Jagr as a member of the New York Rangers. However Jagr was not signed by the Rangers or any NHL team this year and instead opted to sign in Russia.
After Sunday’s second game in Prague against the Lightning, the Rangers will get a few days off before returning to Madison Square Garden on Friday to hose the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 2008 MLB playoff picture is finally set as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Twins in playoff to determine the AL Central Division winner. The White Sox only need one run in a pitching dominated game last night. A home-run by Jim Thome in the 7th inning was all the offense required for Chicago as John Danks pitched eight strong innings, giving up only two hits.
Ken Griffey Jr. also made a huge play, throwing out Cuddyer at home plate to preserve the win. The tired White Sox will now head to Tampa to face the AL East Division winning Tampa Bay Rays. Game 1 of this series takes place on Thursday at 2:30pm in Tampa.
