Rock icon Roger Waters will be performing at Fenway Park Sunday, July 1st as part of his relaunch of The Wall Live Tour this summer. Chicago’s Wrigley Field, NYC’s Yankee Stadium and Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park are also among several stadiums set to host Waters in 2012. (more)
After years of feuding between Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and David Gilmour, the former band members are going to put the past behind them for one night. Gilmour has offered to accompany Waters onstage on his 30th anniversary tour for The Wall for the playing of “Comfortably Numb”. Of the 94-date tour that begins this September, Gilmour has yet to confirm what venue he will appear at, but the mystery appearance is likely to sell out what’s left of The Wall tickets available.
The trade-off leading to this chance duet came after David Gilmour thought up an idea for a charity event performance: “…to sing the old Teddy Bears song “To Know Him Is To Love Him” with [Waters], what with us having been so famously at each other’s throats for years and years.” While Waters was enthusiastic about performing the Pink Floyd classics “Wish You Were Here” and “Comfortably Numb” at the gala, he believed the arrangement for the cover song to be “way outside [his] vocal range.”
Not giving up on the idea, Gilmour made Waters an offer too good to pass up: if Waters would agree to perform “To Know Him Is To Love Him” for the event, Gilmour would play “Comfortably Numb” with Waters at one of his Wall shows. With an offer Waters couldn’t refuse, the pair played the Hoping Foundation Benefit in London with great success. The performance was only their second time sharing a stage since a bitter split in the early ‘80s. (more)
Longtime singer-songwriter-musician Roger Waters is set to perform his most famous project as frontman of legendary rock group Pink Floyd at 35 major venues across the country. The Wall will first be showcased in its entirety at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Wednesday, September 15th before hitting Chicago’s United Center for two nights starting Monday, September 20th. Rogers is also expecting to play cities that include Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Anaheim.
“30 years ago when I wrote The Wall I was a frightened young man…It took me a long time to get over my fears,” said Rogers in a message to his fans. ”Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.”
Following its release in November of 1979, The Wall went on to position itself among the top five best-selling albums of all time. The bands ninth studio record features classic tracks “Another Brick in the Wall,” “Hey You,” “Comfortably Numb,” and “In the Flesh.” Don’t miss your chance to witness Roger Waters perform The Wall live in concert!
