Titans 4-0 Under Young

Posted by Ace Staff on November 24th, 2009

Houston Texans kicker Kris Brown missed a 49-yard field goal attempt with just seconds remaining, giving the Tennessee Titans the 20-17 win Monday night at Reliant Stadium. Titans QB Vince Young threw for 116 yards while rushing for 73, leaving 29 carries and 151 yards for stand-out RB Chris Johnson. Young has led his squad to 4-0 since taking over at starting QB, improving the once struggling Titans to 4-6. “I think you get a sense this game could have gone in either direction,” said Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher. “I can’t say how much it means to us to come back in here and get back on track again and fortunately get a win.” Titans kicker Rob Bironas really came through in the clutch with two 50+ field goals to hold off the Texans. Two years ago he set an NFL record with eight field goals in Houston. “I always feel good down here … I like Houston,” he said. “I don’t think Houston likes me too much.” The Titans will next face the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, November 29th at 4:15 PM. Houston is set to rematch the Indianapolis Colts on the 29th as well at 1:00 PM. The Texans will be hungry for a win after losing their last two by three to the Colts and Titans.

Mark Sanchez Named Jets Starting QB

Posted by Ace Staff on August 26th, 2009

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan officially announced rookie Mark Sanchez as their starting quarterback.  Sanchez will be the first rookie QB to start the season opener for the organization since Dick Jamieson in 1960, back when they were known as the New York Titans.  “I feel that the best move for our franchise and our team is to go with Mark as our quarterback,” Ryan said Wednesday. “I think Mark gives us the best opportunity to win.” It was only possible for the Jets to select Sanchez through trading up in the draft.  This off-season they signed the former USC standout to a five-year deal that could be worth up to $60 million($28 million guaranteed).  In last week’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, Sanchez completed just 3 of 8 passes for 43 yards.  During his debut he was welcomed to the NFL by veteran Ray Lewis with a hit to the stomach,  causing him to toss up an interception.  “Not obviously the way you want to start. I thought I was doing the right thing; I felt Ray come free on the right side from the protection,” said Sanchez. “I was checking it down to the flat, perfect. Haloti just jumped right in front of the ball and made a really athletic play.” Sanchez and the Jets are scheduled to face off against the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles before kicking off the regular season against the Houston Texans on Sunday, September 13th at Reliant Stadium.
