Phillies Advance to World Series

Posted by Ace Staff on October 16th, 2008

Last night’s 5-1 win by the Phillies over the Dodgers gave Philadelphia a 4-1 series win over L.A. in the NLCS, putting them in the World Series for the 1st time since 1993. The Phillies who own the distinction as the losingest franchise in pro sports history with over 10,000 losses can finally have something to cheer about. The Championship starved city now awaits the winner of the ALCS between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays.  Phillies World Series Tickets

Dodgers vs Phillies NLCS Preview

Posted by Ace Staff on October 9th, 2008

The new, improved, Manny Ramirez-led Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League division series. LA swept the NL-best Cubs out of the division series, and the Phillies dropped only one game to the Wild-Card winning Brewers in the first round. The Dodgers will be without outfielder Andruw Jones and closer Takashi Saito, who missed much of the season with an elbow injury. Manny Ramirez and a healthy Rafael Furcal will give the Phillies pitching quite a challenge, both were red-hot during the first round of the playoffs. Joe Torre knows what it is like to win in the postseason, and will get the most out of his team. 2008 NLCS Schedule Game 1 – Thursday, October 9th 8:22pm @ Philadelphia Game 2 – Friday, October 10th 4:35pm @ Philadelphia Game 3 – Sunday, October 12th 822:pm @ Los Angeles Game 4 – Monday, October 13th 8:22pm @ Los Angeles Game 5 – Wednesday, October 15th 8:22pm @ Los Angeles Game 6 – Friday, October 17th 8:22pm @ Philadelphia Game 7 – Saturday, October 18th 8:22pm @ Philadelphia Pitching Matchups Game 1 – Cole Hamels vs Derek Lowe Game 2 – Brett Myers vs Chad Billingsley Game 3 – Hiroki Kuroda vs Jamie Moyer Check out our full selection of MLB Championship and World Series playoff tickets, and our growing selection of 2009 MLB Tickets.

Phillies Slam Brewers, Lead Series 2-0

Posted by Ace Staff on October 3rd, 2008

On Thursday the Brewers sent ace CC Sabathia to the mound, hoping that he could lead the NL Wild Card winners to a 1-1 tie in the NLDS. Phillies’ centerfielder Shane Victorino had other plans. Having already gotten a hit off of Sabathia in the previous inning, Victorino stepped to the plate in the second with the bases loaded and a run already in. Victorino put Philadelphia ahead for good with a towering grand-slam homer to left field. Sabathia lasted just 3 2/3 innings, throwing 98 pitches and giving up five runs on six hits and four walks. Phillies starter Brett Myers had a shaky first inning; giving up an RBI double to JJ Hardy to give the Brewers the early lead. Myers would settle down and throw seven solid innings to lead the Phils to 2-0 in the series. Game 3 of the NLDS matchup between the Phillies on Brewers will be at Miller Park on October 4th at 6:30pm. Full MLB Division Series Schedule MLB Playoff Tickets

Phillies Top Brewers in Game 1 NLDS

Three runs in the 3rd inning was all the Philadelphia Phillies needed to get their first postseason win in 15 years. Cole Hamels pitched a gem for Philly going 8 strong innings with 9 strikeouts. Chase Utley’s two run double gave the Phillies the lead for good in the 3rd. In Thursday’s game 2 the Milwaukee Brewers will throw their ace, C.C. Sabathia on three days rest as the Brewers try to pull even in this NLDS. The Phillies will have Brett Myers on the hill. MLB Division Series Schedule MLB Playoff Tickets

Phils Lose Despite Disputed Homer

Posted by Ace Staff on August 6th, 2008

August 5th, 2008. This was the first day that instant replay was to be tested in the MLB. Just like clockwork, Shane Victorino hit a shot that seemed to have gone left of the foul pole. The umpires got together, discussed what they saw, and called the shot fair. Instant replays on TV clearly showed the ball sailing foul. So why didn’t the umps use the new instant replay system? They can’t. The instant replay system test is merely a “watch and wait” deal to see how accurate the camera systems would be. The umpires cannot see anything on the replay cameras until the game is over. Umps will not use any sort of camera system until a plan to smoothly integrate them into the game is hatched. Phillies starter Jamie Moyer was 10-0 in 10 starts at the Marlins, but got the tough luck loss giving up two runs across five innings. Florida pounded the Phils bullpen for 6 runs in the last three innings of the game to seal the victory, and gain a game on the NL East leading Phils.

Phillies Rally from 5-0 Deficit to Beat Braves

Posted by Ace Staff on July 28th, 2008

Just one day after coming back from 6 runs down on Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies came back from a 5-0 deficit to best the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. A nearly 2-hour rain delay in the bottom of the second inning ended Jorge Campillo and Joe Blanton’s starts, and sent both clubs scrambling for replacements. Philadelphia chose Adam Eaton, who gave up 3 runs to make it 5-0 Braves. The Braves sent in Jo-Jo Reyes, whose disastrous 4th inning would tie it back up. Phils’ catcher Chris Coste hit a two run homer, followed by a 3-run blast by Shane Victorino later in the inning. Julian Tavarez came in to relieve Reyes, and was promptly greeted by a Pat Burrell solo shot. The Phils opened up the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on timely hits by Victorino and Ryan Howard, as well as a 2-run shot bu Jayson Werth. The Braves would get three back in the 8th, but closer Brad Lidge pitched a solid ninth inning for his 24th save of the season. The Phillies are currently one game behind the Mets in the NL East, with the Florida Marlins a game behind them. Philly opens up a 3-game series at NL-worst Washington on Monday night. East contenders Florida and New York will play the first of three at Dolphin Stadium. Braves catcher Brian McCann left after a home plate collision with Shane Victorino. X-rays were negative, and McCann should only miss a few days with a mild concussion.

Phillies Score 6 Runs in 9th; Beat Mets 8-6

Posted by Ace Staff on July 23rd, 2008

Entering the 9th inning Tuesday trailing 5-2 to the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies knew that with closer Billy Wagner unavailable to pitch due to muscle spasm in his throwing shoulder, anything was possible. Six runs and four relief pitchers later, the Mets witnessed just how valuable a good closer can be. The Phillies batted around sending 11 batters to the plate in the 9th inning rally that helped lift them past the division rival Mets and take a 1 game lead in the NL East standings. The devastating blow came from 2007 NL MVP Jimmy Rollins when he clocked a go-ahead two-run double to propel the Phillies to their 54th victory on the season. “It started last year,” Rollins said, referring to the Phillies’ comeback from seven games behind the Mets with 17 to play to win the division. “You never give up.” New York had played the spoiler in Joe Blanton’s first start with Philadelphia since being traded from Oakland. Blanton allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings of work in his NL debut but did not factor into the decision because of the late inning heroics by his teammates. Johan Santana also did not factor into the game’s decision after pitching very well for the Mets. Santana tossed eight solid innings allowing only two runs on eight hits but got nothing to show for it after his bullpen could not close the game out. “After seeing that, you can’t help feeling that you want to be out there,” said the sidelined Wagner, who has 24 saves in 30 chances. “A lot of different things might have happened if I was out there. I’d rather be the guy standing here taking the blame instead of letting my teammates suck on this one.” The loss puts the Mets 1 game behind the Phillies in the NL East standings and 4 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Wildcard race.

Drew's 4 Hits Lift Sox Over Phillies 7-4

Posted by Ace Staff on June 19th, 2008

Whenever J.D. Drew returns to Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love shows him anything but affection. Eleven years ago, it was Drew who refused to sign with the Phillies after they drafted him second overall in the 1997 amateur draft and ever since then the boos have been loud and come often whenever he’s in town. Wednesday afternoon, Drew proved that they don’t bother him at all going 4-5 at the plate with a homerun, four RBI’s and scoring two runs of his own to lift the Boston Red Sox past the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 at Citizens Bank Park in front of another sold out crowd of 45,187. “They’re not going to forget, I know that much,” Drew said. “It’s always one of those situations where you go out there and battle and you’re going to hear things that you don’t normally hear at other parks. It makes it fun.” The four hits on the afternoon tied a career high for Drew who fell just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and continues to excel in the absence of David Ortiz. Since Ortiz was sidelined May 31st, Drew is batting .441 (26-59) with nine home runs and 22 RBI’s in the month of June. “It’s just a matter if keeping it simple,” Drew said. “When things fall into place, you put your swings on the ball and hopefully good things happen. I’ve hit a lot balls away from where people are standing so that is always nice.” Aside from Drew’s big day, the Sox also received three hits and two runs from 2B Dustin Pedroia. Hitting out of the 4 spot in the lineup, Mike Lowell belted his 11th homer of the year and Sean Casey, who has hit safely in the last 7 games he’s started, added two hits as well. Boston’s 2 through 5 hitters in the battling order combined to go 10-18 on the day with two home runs, five RBI’s and scored four runs. Justin Masterson tossed five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. The effort was good enough to help him pick up the win, he is now 4-1 on the season with a 3.00 ERA. On in relief in the 7th inning, Craig Hansen got himself into a little trouble allowing a lead off single to E Bruntlett. Brunlett stole second, and then Hansen issued a walk to Carlos Ruiz. A wild pitch would move the runners up to 2nd and 3rd base without any outs. Pedro Feliz would rip a single to center field to knock in both runs to cut into the Red Sox lead. Hansen was relieved by Manny Delcarmen who came in and issued a walk to Jimmy Rollins. After the base on balls Delcarmen was flawless, retiring the next six batters he faced to preserve the Sox lead. Jonathan Papelbon came in to pitch a 1-2-3 9th inning to record his 21st save on the season. The Sox are off today and return home for two exciting interleague play series. This weekend Boston welcomes the St. Louis Cardinals back to Fenway Park for the first time since the 2004 World Series match up. Following the series, the Arizona Diamondbacks will be in town for three games which will conclude the interleague play schedule for the 2008 season. When the Red Sox return home on Friday night they will honor the World Champion Boston Celtics during the pre-game ceremonies. Tickets for the upcoming homestand are still available!
