Pats Shift Focus to Jets

Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have moved on from the 4th and 2 controversy despite the media’s unwillingness to let it go. Brady when asked again about last Sunday finally set the record straight with the press. “You still want to talk about the Colts?” he asked one reporter. “We want to talk about the Jets. We learned a lot from the Jets when we lost, we learned a lot from Denver, and we’re going to learn a lot from this Colts game. We have seven games left and this is the biggest one of the year.”

The New York Jets are two games behind New England in the AFC East standings heading into their Week 11 matchup. The Patriots understand that the Division is most important during the home stretch of the regular season. Now more than halfway through the year, New England must put all their attention on fending off the Jets and Miami Dolphins.

Veteran Junior Seau emphasized the mentality and short-term memory players are required to bring to the field each week. “You can’t rehearse it,” he said. “One thing we’re going to preach here and now is that what’s in the past is in the past. We have challenges every day. Today’s challenge is basically to be the best team we can be today to get ready for the game.”

The Baltimore Ravens racked up two touchdowns and a field goal in the third quarter while holding the Cleveland Browns scoreless, resulting in a 16-0 Monday Night Football Ravens victory at M&T Bank Stadium. Ray Rice ran for 12 yards to claim the initial TD, which was followed by a Dawan Landry interception for six more. Baltimore posted their final points eight minutes into the third with a 44 yard boot through the uprights courtesy of Steve Hauschka.

“I guess I agree it wasn’t pretty,” said QB Joe Flacco. “It was an ugly win, but that’s the way some wins are in the NFL.” Flacco  threw for 155 yards from 13 passes completed. Luckily his defense pulled most of the weight yesterday, holding Cleveland’s Brady Quinn to 99 yards and two picks. The 1-8 Browns are scheduled to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, November 22nd at Ford Field. Baltimore is set to host the undefeated Indianapolis Colts the same day.

Colts Steal Win over Patriots

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick decided to keep the offensive unit out there in a fourth and two situation from their own 28 yard line with just over two minutes remaining. The call resulted in a short pass to Kevin Faulk that fell six inches short from the first down marker. From there Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts took over in just four plays, scoring the final touchdown with 11 seconds left to win 35-34 last night at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The well experienced and poised Manning felt the game shift his way after setting up eight yards away from the red zone with three timeouts and a world of time to work with. “When you see them going for it on fourth down, you get a little nervous, but our defense blitzed them, pressured them and got the stop,” said Manning. “It certainly changed our philosophy. In practice, we’re going 60 or 70 yards. So we figure we’re going to have to go five, six, seven plays. In the huddle, I said, ‘Obviously, we need a touchdown, but let’s not be in a hurry.’”

The Patriots gathered a number of positive moments despite falling inches short from clinching in the end. Tom Brady threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns from 29 completions, nine of which found Randy Moss for 179 yards. New England definitely developed a better mentality after posting 34 points against a tough Indianapolis defense. Yesterday’s contest may very well be a preview of the 2009 AFC Championship game. The Pats are now set to face the 4-5 New York Jets on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. New England Patriots tickets are now available!

The San Francisco 49ers defense picked off five of QB Jay Cutlers passes on their way to defeating the Chicago Bears 10-6 yesterday at Candlestick Park. Cutler threw for 307 yards despite gift wrapping two INT’s in the red zone. “It was tough. I have to apologize to the defense,” said Cutler. “I think the offense as a whole has to apologize. They played a great game and kept us in there even through all the turnovers.”

Frank Gore earned the game’s only touchdown in the second quarter.  In total he rushed for 104 yards from 25 carries. Throughout the contest the Bears run game struggled to be recognized as a potential threat. Matt Forte led Chicago’s rushing and receiving efforts with 41 yards from the ground and 120 yards racked up from eight completions.

The 49ers after claiming their first victory in five games moved to second place behind the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West standings. The Bears now at 4-5 fell to third place in the NFC North, trailing the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.

Brady Quinn to Start Monday Night

Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini recently announced that the young Brady Quinn will return as starting quarterback for their upcoming Monday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens. Quinn was benched after just 10 quarters of play and replaced by Derek Anderson heading into the second half of their first matchup with Baltimore. After seeing Anderson post a league low 36.2 QB rating, Mangini is convinced that Quinn will be able to hold the spot for the remainder of the season.

“He’s had good weeks of practice,” said Mangini. “He’s worked hard since the first transition was made. I look forward to him taking advantage of this opportunity and helping us improve.”

The Browns organization is 1-7 so far this year with just five offensive touchdowns (a number two less than the New Orleans Saints defense alone). Quinn is definitely eager to get back on the field for another chance. ”I’m excited to be a part of Monday night,” said Quinn. ”Every team in the NFL is tough, them especially. We’ve got our hands full right now.”

Monday Night Football is set for 8:30 PM at Cleveland Browns Stadium

Patriots Colts Preview

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will be set to host another classic Brady vs. Manning showdown this Sunday, November 15th at 8:20 PM. The game is one that could possibly set the tone for the 2009 AFC championship game. Both teams are leading their respective divisions and always look forward to sizing up against one another. This week’s NFL power rankings list the Colts at number two with the Patriots right behind in fourth.

Against Indianapolis Brady is 5-2 during the regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs. With Matt Cassel taking the snaps last season New England fell to the Colts 18-15. Five of the last six Pats-Colts contests have been decided by a touchdown or less.

Over the years the two future hall of fame quarterbacks have certainly developed a great amount of respect for each other. Brady emphasized that it’s important for his squad to bring everything to the table when facing Peyton and the Colts. “He’s just a great player,” said Brady. “He’s done it consistently for a long time. He’s never missed a game, which is pretty unbelievable. In order to beat these guys, you’ve got to play a great game. Every time we’ve beaten them, we’ve had to play great.” The best deals for New England Patriots tickets are located right here with us at Ace!

Steelers Win Five Straight

After somewhat of a shaky start to the 2009 regular season, the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers are officially back as one of the NFL’s top contenders. They better proved themselves Monday night after handling the Denver Broncos 28-10 at Mile High Stadium.

Safety Tyrone Carter in replace of Ryan Clark stepped up and took one back for six early in the second quarter. “I was excited for him,” said Clark. “It was a big win. He did an awesome job. His first interception really put us in the game.”  Clark himself was unable to perform due to a sickle-cell trait that prevents oxygen from flowing into his spleen while at high altitudes.

After being hospitalized at a Mile High game in 2007, Clark was better off sidelined for last night’s contest. “My goal for this trip was to go back with the team on the plane,” said Clark. “Last time I came out, I didn’t make it back with them.”

The Steelers scored the final 21 points of the game between the third and fourth quarters. They’re now tied with the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North Division standings. Denver is just one game up on the San Diego Chargers in the AFC West.

Patriots Defeat Dolphins in Foxboro

Tom Brady and Randy Moss connected for a crucial touchdown pass in the third quarter as the Patriots defense contained the Miami Dolphins to 17 total points yesterday at Gillette Stadium. New England racked up a score of 27, posting at least three points per quarter. The Brady/Moss connection immediately followed a Dolphins touchdown, when Joey Haynos received a short pass from Ronnie Brown.

That’s like getting stabbed in the heart right there,” said Patriots guard Logan Mankins. “You grind it out for like 10 minutes and finally score, and then in like a minute and a half we come right back.”

LB Joey Porter certainly gave New England some motivation with his comments earlier this week, basically listing the Patriots organization as the NFL’s favored cheaters. After the game Brady responded to his trash talk with nothing but class and respect, saying “he’s a great player, he’s been a great player for a long time, but it’s always great when you come out of the game and you understand that you kept one of their best players from [having] an impact on the game. We have to see him again in four weeks, so I’m sure he’ll be juiced up for that game. Hopefully we can go out there and perform the same way.”

The Pats have a tough string of games ahead for the next three weeks. For week 10 and 12 they will match up against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. On November 22nd they’re scheduled to meet up with their division rival New York Jets at home.
