This Week in Boston (September 17-23)

The Boston Red Sox will battle the Baltimore Orioles for three games starting Friday night. Head out to Fenway Park on September 21-23 to see Dustin Pedroia and the rest of the Red Sox take on their division-rivals. The Orioles are currently fighting with the New York Yankees for first place in the division. As the Orioles haven’t made the playoffs since 1997, this is an important game for them. Boston is out of the playoff hunt but is positioned to play a spoiler in the series. (more)

Revolution to Host Boxing Event at Gillette

The New England Revolution has found an alternative way to gain more fans for one of their upcoming home games. The club will host Gillette Stadium’s first ever boxing match immediately following their game against the Montreal Impact Sunday, August 12th. (more)

This Week in Boston (April 9 – 15)

The Bruins will kick off the playoffs at home at the TD Garden on Thursday April 12. They’re going up against the Washington Capitals who beat the Bruins in the regular season series 3-1. They’ll play a second game at home on Saturday April 14 before moving the series to Washington. The Bruins had a strong finish, winning four out of the last five games of the regular season. Hopefully they will be able to carry the momentum over to the playoffs and start things off right at home. (more)

Boston Events This Weekend (June 24-27)

If you re looking for something to do this weekend, you’re in luck! The city is bursting with shows and entertainment. On Saturday, there’s something for everyone with stellar concerts at most of the city s venues. The Capitol Steps perform at the Wilbur Theatre. In the past 30 years, the political satire group has released approximately as many albums. Their routine consists largely of parodies of well known songs as well as skits about current politics and scandals. The show is at 7 PM, and tickets start at $99.   At Agganis Arena, Chayanne will play on Saturday. The Latin Pop Singer has been performing since the late 1970s, when he was part of a group called Los Chicos. After the band separated in 1984, he became a solo artist. He has since been nominated for numerous awards and also established himself as an actor. His most recent album, No Hay Imposibles, was released in February. A few floor seats are still available for the show, starting at $145.   Also on Saturday, the legendary Cyndi Lauper is in town, performing at the House of Blues. Since 1983, Lauper has been turning out hits including  Girls Just Want to Have Fun and  Time After Time.  She has been nominated for approximately a dozen Gammy Awards, winning two. She has also appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including the most recent season of The Celebrity Apprentice. She is currently performing in support of her most recent album, Memphis Blues. The Boston Celtics are preparing to continue their win streak tonight at the Amway Arena following Sunday’s 92-88 win over the Orlando Magic in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The veteran Celtics roster is feeling healthy and motivated after knocking out the top ranked Cleveland Cavaliers before taking Orlando’s previously earned home court advantage.

Kevin Garnett won’t be treating Game 2 any easier in light of their chance to be up 2-0 when the series moves to Boston. “We focused on the things we didn’t do well,” he said. “We anticipate this team coming out full of energy on Tuesday night, so we have to be ready to go.” The TD Garden will host Games 3 and 4 with prices starting at $129. Don’t miss your chance to catch Rondo, the Big 3 and the rest of the C’s as they make another push for banner #18.

The New England Revolution are set for a friendly match with Portugal’s SL Benfica Wednesday, May 19th at Gillette Stadium. Benfica has won a total of 32 Portuguese titles since their inaugural season in 1904. The international power house will feature players in Foxboro that include Luis Filipe, Pablo Aimar, Ruben Amorim, and Julio Cesar. Tickets to this event currently range from $75-$125.

The Boston Red Sox just recently suffered a heartbreaking 11-9 loss yesterday in the Bronx. They’ll face the Yankees once more tonight before making their way back to Fenway to host the Minnesota Twins for two games starting Wednesday. Sox vs. Twins tickets are available for $49. Revolution Set to Host World Teams

The New England Revolution are very excited in light of their upcoming matches against a pair of international power houses between Portugal’s SL Benfica and Brazil’s Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. The games are scheduled for Wednesday, May 19th and Sunday, June 13th at Gillette Stadium. Benfica has racked up a total of 32 Portuguese championships since their inaugural season in 1904. They’ve also claimed victory in two UEFA European Cups. Cruzeiro ranks as one of Brazil’s most popular clubs. The 2008 and 2009 league champs have won 36 titles in their history. “Not only is Cruzeiro one of South America’s top teams, but there is a tremendous Brazilian population in the New England area that hails from the Minais Gerais region of the country, and also claims Cruzeiro as their club and follow them from afar,” said Revolution Vice President of Business Development Craig Tornberg. “We expect a tremendous atmosphere for this match, and look forward to welcoming Cruzeiro to New England.” 2010 Revolution tickets are now available!

Dwayne Wade was able to net 30 points in the second half for his Miami Heat to defeat the Boston Celtics 101-92 yesterday at the American Airlines Arena. Miami avoided the potential first round sweep with the W, pushing the series back to Boston for Game 5 on Tuesday. Kevin Garnett insists that Boston is confident in regards to closing the series at the TD Garden, saying “they did what they were supposed to do, which is defend the home court. And now we’re thinking the same thing going back home.” Loge seats for tomorrow’s contest are currently priced at $45. Bruins forward Marc Savard says he’s good to go for Game 6 tonight at the Garden against the Buffalo Sabres. Savard hasn’t played since suffering a Grade 2 concussion on March 7th in Pittsburgh. “I felt great,” he said. “It’s a tough situation. It’s obviously a huge game and I haven’t played in a long time. I felt great out there. I was controlling the puck well and had some contact down low.” The Bruins hold the 3-2 series advantage. Tickets for tonight are still available with prices starting at $65. The Boston Red Sox are on the road all this week with games in Toronto and Baltimore. They will return to Fenway to play host to the Los Angeles Angels for three-games starting Monday, May 3rd. Prices for Sox vs. Angels are ranging from $35-$90. The New England Revolution is looking forward to a pair of home games at Gillette Saturday, May 1st against the Dallas Burn and Wednesday, May 5th against Chivas USA. The Boston Red Sox started off strong in 2010 with a comeback win over the New York Yankees on Easter Sunday. They are prepared to challenge their longtime rivals for two more games starting tonight at 7:10 PM. Jon Lester and AJ Burnett will take the mound first before John Lackey makes his debut in Red Sox uniform against veteran Andy Pettitte the following day. The Sox won’t be back in Boston until the Tampa Bay Rays come to town for four games from April 16th - 19th. Red Sox Yankees tickets are still available for $85 apiece. The Boston Bruins just recently earned a point in a hard fought overtime loss against the top ranked Washington Capitals. They are shaping up to earn one of the remaining playoff spots with just three games to go. Watch the B’s in action this week on Thursday and Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes with Loge seats currently listed at $55. The Boston Celtics are also in town for one game this week on Friday against the Washington Wizards. The Celts are building momentum after edging the Cleveland Cavaliers to conclude last weekend’s offensive thriller. They hold the #4 spot behind the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference standings. Revolution, Galaxy to Open in LA

The complete 2010 MLS regular season schedule was just released earlier this afternoon, featuring the New England Revolution and Los Angeles Galaxy opening against each other Saturday, March 27th in Carson, CA. New England will then travel to Washington to matchup with DC United before hosting Toronto FC April 10th at Gillette. No Major League Soccer contests will be held from June 11th-25th in light of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Later this summer the Revs are set to enter SuperLiga 2010, an annual event showcasing the best professional clubs from the U.S. and Mexico. Be sure to check back for New England Revolution tickets!
