The Celtics and Bruins are at the top of their leagues, and Boston fans face a tough decision on which game to watch tonight. The Bruins are six points ahead of division rival Montreal, and share the Eastern Conference lead with the New York Rangers (with three games in hand). The Celtics have 5.5 games on the Philadelphia 76ers in the Atlantic division, and a 1.5 game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.
The Bruins will face off against the Sabres in Buffalo at 7:00pm. The Black and Gold look to continue their reign as the NHL’s best in goals against, facing a team that they have already dominated twice this season.
The Celtics tip off against the Golden State Warriors at the Garden at 7:30pm. The C’s have won their last five, and are looking to secure their second 6-game winning steak of the young season. Golden State looks to break a 3-game losing streak, and have bested the reigning champion Celtics 4 of the last 5 times the teams have met.

The 1-10 Washington Wizards have fired head coach Eddie Jordan. The Wizards’ director of player development Ed Tapscott has been selected to coach the team on an interim basis. The Wizards have struggled so far this year, without star Gilbert Arenas and role-player Brendan Haywood. Tapscott will make his coaching debut against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night at the Verizon Center in DC.

Riding the momentum from Friday night’s win in Minnesota, Garnett’s first trip back since his trade to the Celtics, Boston dropped 118 points on the Toronto Raptors today for their 13th win of the year. In Friday night’s win at the Timberwolves, Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 17 points en route to a 95-78 win.
It was Ray Allen dominating the Raptors on Sunday, scoring 21 points for the team high. Scoring 15 points each were Kevin Garnett, Tony Allen, and Rajon Rondo. Perkins added 12 points and 8 rebounds and Paul Pierce had 11 points as the Celtics made sure they got their baskets today.
The win was the fifth straight for the Boston Celtics who have been cruising lately. They’ve overcome some tough opponents and early deficits to maintain their poise. As the defending champions they are no doubt wearing a target on their backs. The Celtics will get two days to rest before hosting the Golden State Warriors on 11/26. On Friday the Celtics will host the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a double header of hockey and basketball at the TD Banknorth Garden. Celtics tickets are available for both of these games now.
Allen Iverson’s move to Detroit has helped the Pistons get past the Lakers and the Cavs but not their Eastern Conference rival, Boston Celtics. The Celtics ruined Iverson’s home debut with Detroit a couple of weeks ago. It was more of the same last night at the TD Banknorth Garden as the Celtics prevailed over Detroit 98-80. Iverson managed 16 points and 4 assists but was outplayed by Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo. Rondo scored 18 and had 8 assists as the leading scorer for Boston last night.
Both teams scored 21 points in the 1st but Boston would pull away in the 2nd and 3rd quarters outscoring Detroit 56-36 in that stretch. The Celtics got 15 points out of Kevin Garnett who returned from a one game suspension. Rasheed Wallace would add 13 points and 6 rebounds for Detroit. Last night marked the 5th straight game where the Celtics held the Pistons to under 90 points.
The Celtics will play their next two games on the road before returning home to the TD Banknorth Garden to host the Golden State Warriors on 11/26. Celtics tickets are available for all remaining 2008-2009 games.
The Boston Celtics certainly missed Kevin Garnett’s defense last night against the New York Knicks. Garnett missed the game due to a one game suspension for an altercation in a game this past weekend. The Celtics gave up a rare 101 points but were able to outlast the Knicks for a 110-101 victory. Crowd favorite Brian Scalabrine got a start in place of Garnett and wound up hitting a clutch 3 pointer late in the game.
Paul Pierce led the way for Boston last night with 22 points and 8 rebounds as Boston earned its 10th win of the year. Kendrick Perkins stepped up with 16 points while Rondo and Allen added 15 points each. The win was the 7th in a row for the Celtics against the Knicks.
The Celtics will host Allen Iverson and the Detroit Pistons on 11/20 at the TD Banknorth Garden. Celtics tickets are still available for this game.
A tired Boston Celtics team was able to fight off a late Bucks rally to finish with the win in overtime last night in Milwaukee. The win put the Celtics at 9-2 on the year while the Bucks dropped to 5-6. The Celtics were playing their 8th game in 12 days and at times looked like they could use a rest. Boston will get two days to rest before facing the Knicks on Tuesday 11/18 at the TD Banknorth Garden.
The Celtics held a strong 50-38 lead going into the third period and looked poised to cruise to the win. The Bucks however would erase Boston’s 12 point lead in the 4th quarter to force OT. The Celtics had the edge in the end, winning 102-97 thanks in large part to Paul Pierce’s 28 points.
Celtics tickets are available for all games including Tuesday night’s matchup with the New York Knicks.
If there’s one criticism for the 2008-2009 Boston Celtics its their slow starts in games. The Celtics have had terrible first periods so far this year. The good news of course is that they have displayed a tremendous ability to fight back, shut down the opponents’ offense and pull away with the win. In this game the Celtics actually found themselves down after three quarters but got a memorable performance out of Paul Pierce in the fourth to secure the win. Pierce absolutely dominated with 22 points in the 4th and 36 points for the game.
It was a good game all around for the Big Three. Kevin Garnett had 21 points and 10 rebounds while Ray Allen dropped 19 points on the Raptors. The loss for the Raptors was particularly upsetting for Jermaine O’Neal who had a great game for Toronto with 23 points and 11 rebounds. The win put the Celtics at 7-1 on the year.
The Celtics will host the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday 11/12. Great Celtics tickets are available for this and all Celtics games.
The Washington Wizards are off to a 0-5 record to start the season. Superstar point guard Gilbert Arenas has been out since September after his third knee surgery procedure. Arenas will not return until mid-January at the earliest, and the future of the Wizards team without him is uncertain. Even Antawn Jamison, who played with a passion during Arenas’ absence least year, seems uninterested. The Wizards hope that a big pep talk will help them score a big win against the 5-1 Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.

For most of the season so far, the Golden State Warriors have been without Monta Ellis, Corey Maggette, and Al Harrington. The anemic Warriors offense will get a boost from the return of Al Harrington in tonight’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota hasn’t won since their season-opener, and has struggled in all aspects of their game. Stephen Jackson and Andris Biedrins have kept the well-rounded but relatively inexperienced Warriors team in contention while they deal with injuries.
Tip-off is at 10:30pm EST tonight. Golden State Warriors Tickets are available for every game this season!
The Portland Trailblazers have had a tough start to their season. Of the seven games they have played so far, six of them were against teams that won at least 52 games least year; three of which the Trailblazers won. Portland ended the Orlando Magic’s four-game winning streak, and highlighted the Magic’s recent troubles with scoring off the bench. Outside of their top six men, no one on the Magic is averaging more than four points a game. Despite 35 points from Hedo Turkoglu and 29 from Dwight Howard, the team only managed to get double digit points from two other players. The Trailblazers (still without last year’s #1 pick Greg Oden) benefited from 40 points off their bench, versus the Magic’s twelve. Portland finished strong and held on to secure their first road win of the season.
