Celtics Top Miami in OT

Posted by Ace Staff on March 19th, 2009

Paul Pierce led the Boston Celtics with 36 points to win out over the Miami Heat in overtime 112-108 last night in Boston.  He was the only big 3 member present as Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett were sidelined with injuries.  Rajon Rondo picked up his game for the C’s scoring 27 points while dishing out 10 assists.  With 13 games to go in the regular season Boston was able to clinch the Atlantic Division with the win. The Miami heat also had injury troubles with their star player Dwayne Wade recently injuring his right hip flexor.  Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers helped the Heat give the Celtics a run for their money, scoring 21 and 19.  “It showed that even without D-Wade we’re still going to fight,” Chalmers said.  “We’re a good team.” Though they were able to pull off the overtime win at home, the Celtics need to get healthy soon for the post season.  Leon Powe, Tony Allen, and Brian Scalabrine were inactive along with Garnett and Allen.  Pierce believes the team morale is high after the victory saying “we know that we are injured, but just to get back on the winning mind-frame is big for us.” The Celtics are on their way to San Antonio to match up against the Spurs Friday at 8:30 p.m. Boston Celtics Tickets are now available!

Celtics Struggle in Milwaukee

Posted by Ace Staff on March 18th, 2009

The Boston Celtics were unable to find a rhythm last Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks, losing 77-86.  Kendrick Perkins scored a career high 26 points with 12 rebounds for the C’s, but it wasn’t enough to keep them in contention.  The Celtics had 25 turnovers, setting the mark for the most they?ve had in a single game all year. “With 25 turnovers, we gave up 21 offensive rebounds.  We held them to 32 percent shooting and we lost the game,” Perkins said. “We just can’t win like that.” Charlie Villanueva and Richard Jefferson lead the Bucks to victory, contributing 19 and 17 points.  Paul Pierce had 15 points while pulling down 11 boards despite his squad coming up short.  The Celtics will be in Chicago next as they are set to go against the Bulls tonight at 8:30 p.m. Boston Celtics tickets are now available with us at Aceticket.com.

Celtics Clinch 2009 Playoff Spot

Posted by Ace Staff on March 5th, 2009

Paul Pierce netted 31 points, including the go-ahead shot with 20.9 seconds left for the C’s to win over the New Jersey Nets last night 115-111.  After notching the win the Boston Celtics joined the Cleveland Cavaliers as the only teams to already have a spot for the upcoming post-season.  Cleveland has the top rank in the East so far, and Boston is just one game behind. Rajon Rondo had a key night for the C’s with 20 points, five assists, and five rebounds.  Kendrick Perkins scored 17 points with 13 rebounds, while Ray Allen totaled for 16 points.  Despite Vince Carters 34 point performance, the Nets were not able to beat out the Celtics in the end.  Devin Harris also contributed for the Nets, adding 25 points and 11 assists. The Nets fought all the way to the last few seconds when Carter missed his last field goal attempt, leading to two made free throws by Allen. “They got what they wanted,” said Carter speaking of the Celtics execution down the stretch. “Paul shot the ball unbelievable.  Great teams do that.  We are trying to develop that same mentality and I think we learned a lot tonight.” The Celtics will host the Cavaliers tomorrow night and fight for the #1 spot in the East.  This battle may serve as a preview for what is to come in this years playoffs. Marbury Signs With Celtics, Will Wear Number Eight

Posted by Ace Staff on February 27th, 2009

The Boston Celtics have signed Stephon Marbury to a 1.3 million dollar contract. Marbury will make the prorated league veteran minimum salary, and will be wearing the number 8. As the Celtics only have 11 active players at the moment, Marbury may suit up for tonight’s game. Marbury is a solid low-risk, high-reward signing; as the C’s will either get a solid veteran presence at guard, or have the option to cut Marbury with little consequence against the cap. “We are very excited to have a player of Stephon’s caliber joining our team” Celtics president of Basketball operations told the Globe’s Mark Spears. “Our entire organization is confident in the belief that Stephon can play an important role in helping us to win another championship.” The Celtics face the Indiana Pacers tonight in Boston at 7:00pm. Clippers Stun Celtics

Posted by Ace Staff on February 26th, 2009

Zach Randolph helped the Clippers with 30 points and 12 boards to come away with a win against the Boston Celtics 93-91 last night at the Staples Center.  Baron Davis and Marcus Camby also had big nights, scoring 16 and 14 points and combining for 18 rebounds.  Boston lead LA at the end of the first half 50-46, but the Clippers were in control from there.  They were able to win the 3rd and 4th quarter both by three points to hold off the heavily favored Celtics. The Clippers haven’t been able to create much success this season, and they have been waiting for something like last night to get them going.  “It was one of those games that you cherish,” said Clippers  guard Baron Davis.  “It’s a good start getting everyone healthy.  That’s going to help us be a threat as the end of the season approaches.” As the Clippers are on the upside of their injury troubles, Boston is struggling more than ever.  Brian Scalabrine and Kevin Garnett were already out with injuries for the game, and Paul Pierce dislocated his right thumb in the third and fourth quarter.  Although he played through the pain, he missed the go ahead shot for Boston with 20 seconds remaining.  “It seems like someone is going down every week,” said Pierce.  “The most important thing right now is just to battle through it and try to get healthy.” The Celtics will finally be coming back to Boston for their next game against the Indiana Pacers on February 27th.  They have currently been  talking to Stephon Marbury with hopes that he will fill the roster.   The team agrees that they will be more than happy to have him if he can be open to team ball and stay on his best behavior. Celtics Find No Contest In Denver

Posted by Ace Staff on February 24th, 2009

The Boston Celtics shot 50% from the field and 61% from 3 point range last night in Denver, leading to a 114-76 blow-out victory over the Nuggets.  Rajon Rondo covered his point guard duties well with 14 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds.  Paul Pierce (22 points) and Ray Allen (26 points) served as the main scorers for Boston, combining for 48 points.  Last nights victory marked their second win in a row after handling the playoff bound Suns in Phoenix last Sunday night 128-108. The C’s are gaining confidence that they can come together and win games without All-Star teammate Kevin Garnett, who should be cleared to play in 2-3 weeks after straining a muscle in his right knee.  Leon Powe stepped up last night, netting 16 points in his 30 minutes played.  Powe along with Glen Davis have recently been receiving more minutes due to KG’s absence and have assured their team they can pick up the slack. Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith scored for 19 and 18 points respectively for the Nuggets, but their efforts were not able to help Denver close the gap at any point in the game.  Boston lead at the half 60-37 and the lead blossomed even more from there.  The C’s were looking for revenge after Denver gave them one of their four total losses this season in November at the Garden.  Rajon Rondo said coach Doc Rivers “gave a great motivational speech.  He told us they bullied us last time.”  This time around the Celtics certainly showed who the better team was, increasing the deficit to 38 points by the time the final horn sounded. Look for the Celtics next game as they travel to LA this Wednesday to take on the Clippers at 10:30 pm. Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Rondo Leads KG-Less Celtics Past Suns

Posted by Ace Staff on February 23rd, 2009

On Sunday afternoon the Boston Celtics improved to 10-0 when Rajon Rondo scores over 18 points. Rondo had more than that in the first half alone.  The C’s point guard had more than that in the first half alone, on the way to a career-high 32-point game. With KG out for 2-3 weeks with a a right knee strain, Rondo made a strong case for being included in any “Big-Three” talk in the short term. Rounding out the C’s top scorers, Ray Allen had 31 points, and Paul Pierce had 26 (going 10-10 from the free throw line). The Celtics overpowered the Suns, shooting over 63% from the field. “Guys step up and play their roles even better when Kevin is out,” Rajon Rondo told the AP’s Bob Baum. The Celtics face off against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night at 9:00pm. With the win, the Celtics are just half a game behind the Eastern Conference leader Cleveland Cavaliers. Garnett Hurt in Loss to Jazz

Posted by Ace Staff on February 20th, 2009

In the middle of the Boston Celtics‘ Thursday night contest against the Utah Jazz, they not only lost an 11 point lead, but also Kevin Garnett. Garnett came down awkwardly on his right knee after a layup, and did not return for the rest of the game. The Celtics, in the midst of a 19-turnover game, could not hang on to their lead and fell back behind the Jazz, despite stellar play and a double double for Kendrick Perkins. Aside from the injury, the Celtics were hampered by sloppy offensive play. The C’s had a total of 19 turnovers, and missed almost a third of their free throws. “I think our defense was great and gave us a chance to win the game,” Doc Rivers tolds the AP’s Doug Alden. “It really came down to free throws by us and turnovers. We make our free throws, we win the game. And we if we don’t turn the ball over, we win the game.” The Celtics will try to get back on track against the  Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Celtics Interested in Raja Bell

Posted by Ace Staff on February 18th, 2009

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that the Boston Celtics inquired about Bobcats’ vet Raja Bell. Bell proved himself to be very capable in the postseason with the Phoenix Suns, and seems to be the type of player that would easily fit into the C’s system. However, the green have been unsuccessful trying to move JR Giddens thus far, and are lacking in potential players to trade for Bell. Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Celtics Trade Cassell to Sacramento

Posted by Ace Staff on February 17th, 2009

The Boston Celtics have completed a trade with the Sacramento Kings that will swap Sam Cassell and cash for a conditional second-round pick and cash. The likely result of this deal will be an open roster spot for the C’s, Cassell being released by the Kings, and the protected draft pick staying in Sacramento. While Cassell had not seen action in any of the C’s games so far this season, he was a constant presence on the bench and in warmups. This move gives Boston more options in pursuing more bench depth and a veteran presence (aquiring Stephon Marbury is still a possibility). Boston Celtics tickets are available now!
