Boston’s House of Blues is hosting some of the largest names in alternative rock this summer, beginning with tomorrow’s show, headlined by the New Pornographers and featuring the Dodos. The New Pornographers’ new album Together was released in early May and recorded throughout Canada and the US, with the help of a small army (including Will Sheff from Okkervil River, Annie Clark of St. Vincent, The Dap Kings, and Zach Condon from Beirut, amongst many others). Together conveys a variety of experimental sounds from The New Pornographers’ assembly of talents. “Crash Years”, the debut track provides a harmonious pairing of A.C. Newman and Neko Case’s vocals, the signature that complements just about anything the band strums. The rest of the month of June is welcomed with headlining performances from GWAR, Hole, 50 Cent, Taking Back Sunday and Cyndi Lauper.
The month of July starts off with She & Him, the duo of guitar virtuoso M. Ward and indie film favorite Zooey Deschanel. With the release of this year’s Volume Two, the affectionate, summery sounds reminiscent of Brian Wilson are back with a mixture of covers and original tracks. Deschanel’s voice is likely to bring audiences back to another era, and their lively, cheerful performances (as were seen at this year’s Coachella and Bonnaroo festivals) have been selling out all over Europe and the US this summer with this first ever headlining tour. The album’s single “In the Sun” is a playful, hummable tune that assures the warm sun can cure rocky relationships. She & Him will be followed up by OneRepublic, Sara Bareilles, Wolf Parade and the Dead Weather.
The alternative supergroup The Dead Weather, fronted by Jack White, is promoting their latest album, Sea of Cowards. After hiding behind the drums and passing off the mic to Allison Mossheart take center stage, White provides lead vocals on the album’s single “Blue Blood Blues” and sings alongside Mossheart on several tracks. Their live performances have been praised, with Spin and Rolling Stone listing them as one of the must-see tours of the summer. (more)
Indie rock band Modest Mouse is scheduled to hit the road in July with a string of 16 concert dates lined up starting at the Royal Oak Theater in Michigan Friday, July 2nd. Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival will welcome them in two weeks later before they make their way to the Pageant Theatre in St Louis. They will conclude their summer outing at the Boston House of Blues following their performance at the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn. Modest Mouse is touring in support of their 2009 album No One’s First and You’re Next.
Frontman Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy first came together in 1993. In 2000 the band received their first big break after signing with Sony’s Epic Records. They sold over three million copies between their two certified gold records The Moon & Antarctica and Good News for People Who Love Bad News. They are most recognized through singles “Float On,” “Ocean Breathes Salty,” “Dashboard” and “Missed the Boat.” Don’t miss your chance to see Modest Mouse live in concert.
