Aaron Cook Stellar in Red Sox Win Over Rangers

Aaron Cook let up just one run on six hits through seven innings, leading the Boston Red Sox to coast past the Texas Rangers 9-2 Monday night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox offense got to Texas starter Yu Darvish early, who allowed 11 hits and six runs before being pulled in the bottom of the seventh. Ortiz Moving Closer to Return

Red Sox DH David Ortiz is thinking positively about returning to the lineup soon, as he recently felt no pain for the first time since straining his right Achilles in mid-July. The 15-year veteran was scheduled to be activated on Wednesday but his progress has since been delayed. (more)

Red Sox Hold Off Verlander, Tigers in Rain-Shortened Contest

Josh Beckett was forced out early due to back spasms but his team prevailed through five complete innings, scoring all four of their runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Detroit Tigers in yesterday’s rain-shortened battle at Fenway Park. Clayton Mortensen threw 2 2/3 shutout innings in relief after traveling to Fenway from Triple-A Pawtucket (more)

Cody Ross Homers Twice, Red Sox Blast White Sox 10-1

Cody Ross belted two three-run homers in the third and fourth innings to power the Boston Red Sox past the Chicago White Sox 10-1 yesterday at Fenway Park. Between Ross’s two shots to left and Adrian Gonzalez’s three hits and four RBI’s, Boston was able to coast to an easy victory following Tuesday night’s disheartening 7-5 loss.  (more)

Youkilis Makes Return to Fenway, Gonzalez Homers to Lift Red Sox

Kevin Youkilis put on a show for the Red Sox fans at Fenway Park eagerly awaiting his return, gaining three hits and scoring the lone White Sox run in the first inning following a monstrous standing ovation. Adrian Gonzalez belted a three-run shot to left center in the eighth inning to give Boston the 5-1 advantage (more)

David Ortiz Hits 400th Home Run

David Ortiz sent a solo shot deep to right field for his 400th career home run but the Red Sox couldn’t cap the night on top, falling to the Oakland A’s 3-2 yesterday at Coliseum. Ortiz is the sixth player to reach 400 home runs while in a Red Sox uniform and the first since Manny Ramirez in 2005. (more)

Red Sox Rally, Top Blue Jays 5-1

Jarrod Saltalamacchia belted a tying solo homer in the seventh inning to spark Boston’s late game rally in Tuesday’s 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. The Sox came through with an additional four runs following Salty’s timely shot to left.  (more)

Kevin Youkilis Traded to White Sox

The Boston Red Sox have traded All Star third baseman Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for utility man Brent Lillibridge and right-hander Zach Stewart. The emergence of 23-year old Will Middlebrooks forced the Red Sox to take action, adding depth to the roster while allowing Youkilis to continue working as an everyday player. (more)
