Ellsbury, Red Sox Battle Past Yankees 4-3

Jacoby Ellsbury hit a single to right to score Mike Aviles for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the ninth, leading the Boston Red Sox to win over the New York Yankees 4-3 yesterday at Fenway Park. The Sox victory pushed New York back into a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for AL East lead. (more)

Yankees Top Rays 6-4, Reclaim First Place in AL East

Russell Martin drove in two runs in the fourth inning and homered later in the sixth, lifting the New York Yankees to win 6-4 over the Tampa Bay Rays last night at Tropicana Field. Hiroki Kuroda was able to notch the W after letting up four runs on eight hits through six innings on the mound. (more)

Lavarnway Homers, Sox Snap 7-Game Skid

Ryan Lavarnway hit a solo shot to left field in the top of the sixth inning to lift the Boston Red Sox past the Seattle Mariners 4-3 last night at Safeco Field. The Red Sox bullpen held the Mariners scoreless on just one hit in the remaining four innings. The victory helped Boston snap their recent seven-game losing streak. (more)

Boras Will Seek Top Dollar for Ellsbury

Rumored to have been placed on waivers by the Boston Red Sox last week, Jacoby Ellsbury is viewed by general manager Ben Cherington as the type of player “we want here.” Despite trade rumors surrounding the 28-year old center fielder in the midst of Boston’s blockbuster deal with the LA Dodgers, there was no confirmation as to whether the Red Sox were trying to clean up even more than expected. Red Sox Put Adrian Gonzalez on Waivers

Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was placed on trade waivers and claimed by the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this afternoon.  The Red Sox have 72 hours to pull Gonzalez back off of waivers, work out a trade with the Dodgers, or allow the Dodgers to simply pickup his contract. The eight-year veteran has $127 million and six years remaining on his current deal. (more)

Although there isn’t much to talk or be excited about in regards to this year’s Boston Red Sox, the Fenway Faithful was treated to a special night on Tuesday as the organization payed tribute to the legendary Johnny Pesky, who died last Monday at the age of 92. (more)

Red Sox Avoid Sweep, Down Orioles 6-3

Clay Buchholz allowed in three runs on a scattered eight hits and racked up seven strikeouts to lift his Boston Red Sox past the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 yesterday at Camden Yards. One of the only bright spots on the pitching staff this year, Buchholz earned his 11th win of the season while helping the Red Sox avoid what would have been a disastrous three-game sweep in Baltimore.  (more)

The New York Mets recently acquired veteran catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named. The Red Sox placed Shoppach on waivers and the Mets put a claim on him, intending to utilize the eight-year veteran against left-handed pitchers. (more)

Derek Lowe Sharp in Yankees Debut

Derek Lowe pitched four scoreless innings of relief and allowed just two hits in his New York Yankees debut to help lift his new club past the Texas Rangers 8-2 last night in the Bronx.  David Phelps turned over a 5-2 lead to Lowe in the sixth, letting up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
