The genre-switch landed Rucker not only a performance on Grand Ole Opry, but also a platinum album and a welcoming embrace into the country world.
Easton Corbin is a fresh face in the country world, rising to fame following the debut of his single “A Little More Country than That” in 2009. New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker participated in contact drills for the first time earlier this morning. The 2009 leader in total receptions was first tested in a number of 11-on-11 sequences. During the session he received two solid hits from linebacker Jerod Mayo and proceeded to get back up just fine. Despite the recent aggressive play in training camp, there’s no telling whether he’ll be ready on September 12th when the Patriots open their 2010-2011 campaign against the Cincinnati Bengals at home. Welker tore his ACL January 3rd in the Patriots regular season finale against the Houston Texans.
The seven-year veteran initially showcased his abilities in Sunday’s practice, running full speed but without contact. He was thrilled just to be back on the field in front of the thousands in attendance at the practice facility in Foxboro. “Any time you’ve got the fans out here, it definitely adds a little bit of motivation,” said Welker. “You know people are watching, so you want to make sure you are looking good and staying on top of your game.” Director of player personnel Nick Caserio paid tribute to the 2X Pro Bowler in regards to his strong work ethic, saying “Wes is a unique guy, there is no question about it. Wes works hard, he’s got a good skill set, he does the right things, and I think it’s a tribute to him and his work ethic and his competitiveness and his toughness to get back on the field.” Check here for New England Patriots full schedule and tickets!
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady opened up to the media earlier today following a team practice session. The 3x Super Bowl champion seems to be on the same page with ownership in light of both parties hoping to reach agreement within the next couple of days. He’s set to earn $6.5 million in 2010, which is far below market in comparison to other premier quarterbacks in the league. Fellow players are thrilled to see their team leader keep his contractual negotiations outside of the locker room while keeping a positive attitude on the field.
“I just want to come out here and do the best I can do,” said Brady. “You know, whether you make $1 playing, or you make millions of dollars like we do make, I just really enjoy playing quarterback for this team. I have since the day I stepped on the field. It’s something I relish, and every year is an opportunity…Each year is an opportunity for us to accomplish something pretty special. I don’t want anything to ever get in the way of that.”
Just two days into training camp, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has wasted no time testing his squads toughness physically and mentally. “That’s a big part of camp, going through it day by day and putting your team under stress and seeing how they react to those situations – judge their conditioning and staying power, mental and physical toughness, and durability,” he said. “I think that’s an important part of getting your team ready for the 16-game regular-season schedule that we have to face.” The Patriots first real test will come August 12th in their first preseason matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

The New England Patriots just recently signed first-round draft choice Devin McCourty to a five-year $13.2 million contract with $7.825 million guaranteed. McCourty’s agent Andy Simms stressed the importance for them to finalize the deal with the regular season just around the corner, saying “we worked pretty late to get to this point. We know what’s important in New England and that’s to get to camp on time.” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick played a big role in bringing the former Rutgers standout to Foxboro due to his abilities to play both defense and special teams.
“He’s fast, he’s tough. He’s a good four-down football player – first, second, third and fourth down,” said Belichick. “In the kicking game, he’s certainly one of the top guys in the draft in that area.” The Patriots will open their preseason campaign against the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints Thursday August 12th at Gillette Stadium. They will then matchup with the Falcons, Rams and Giants before kicking off the regular season Sunday, September 12th at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. The five-year deal is worth $40 million that includes an $18 million signing bonus, making him the highest paid nose tackle in the NFL.
“My family, my kids, are happier than I am. Not because of the long-term deal, just because we don’t have to move anywhere,” said Wilfork. “I’m excited. We’re all excited. We definitely got done what we wanted to get done out of the deal, both sides. We both agreed on the deal. From the Wilfork camp, we’re happy. The organization is happy.
