Pats Shift Focus to Jets

Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have moved on from the 4th and 2 controversy despite the media’s unwillingness to let it go. Brady when asked again about last Sunday finally set the record straight with the press. “You still want to talk about the Colts?” he asked one reporter. “We want to talk about the Jets. We learned a lot from the Jets when we lost, we learned a lot from Denver, and we’re going to learn a lot from this Colts game. We have seven games left and this is the biggest one of the year.”

The New York Jets are two games behind New England in the AFC East standings heading into their Week 11 matchup. The Patriots understand that the Division is most important during the home stretch of the regular season. Now more than halfway through the year, New England must put all their attention on fending off the Jets and Miami Dolphins.

Veteran Junior Seau emphasized the mentality and short-term memory players are required to bring to the field each week. “You can’t rehearse it,” he said. “One thing we’re going to preach here and now is that what’s in the past is in the past. We have challenges every day. Today’s challenge is basically to be the best team we can be today to get ready for the game.”

Patriots Defeat Dolphins in Foxboro

Tom Brady and Randy Moss connected for a crucial touchdown pass in the third quarter as the Patriots defense contained the Miami Dolphins to 17 total points yesterday at Gillette Stadium. New England racked up a score of 27, posting at least three points per quarter. The Brady/Moss connection immediately followed a Dolphins touchdown, when Joey Haynos received a short pass from Ronnie Brown.

That’s like getting stabbed in the heart right there,” said Patriots guard Logan Mankins. “You grind it out for like 10 minutes and finally score, and then in like a minute and a half we come right back.”

LB Joey Porter certainly gave New England some motivation with his comments earlier this week, basically listing the Patriots organization as the NFL’s favored cheaters. After the game Brady responded to his trash talk with nothing but class and respect, saying “he’s a great player, he’s been a great player for a long time, but it’s always great when you come out of the game and you understand that you kept one of their best players from [having] an impact on the game. We have to see him again in four weeks, so I’m sure he’ll be juiced up for that game. Hopefully we can go out there and perform the same way.”

The Pats have a tough string of games ahead for the next three weeks. For week 10 and 12 they will match up against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. On November 22nd they’re scheduled to meet up with their division rival New York Jets at home.

Patriots Dolphins Preview

Following a bye week the New England Patriots are set to face the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.  The division rivals have yet to see each other so far this regular season. After the weekend they will meet again on December 6th at Land Shark Stadium. New England currently holds the top spot in the AFC East with a 5-2 record.  The Dolphins are just below .500 in third place behind the New York Jets.

Miami LB Joey Porter had some choice words about Tom Brady and the Patriots when interviewing with Rich Eisen from the NFL network.  The 11-year veteran called Brady out for influencing officials, and from there continued to discuss New England’s “unfair tactics” used in the past.

“He (Brady) just points to the ref and he gets a flag. So I can honestly say that he gets his own rules,” said Porter. “I still don’t care for New England. The hate’s been there for a while, especially after all the cheating they did back in the day. They can sweep it under the rug if they want to, but just like anybody else that’s cheating that gets caught, you put an asterisk by it. But nobody puts an asterisk by those championships.”

The Patriots should likely retaliate with their play on the field Sunday. After these kinds of statements the squad will certainly be fired up and ready to go. New England Patriots tickets are available right here at AceTicket.com!

Patriots Pummel Winless Titans

With a Buffalo Bills win over the New York Jets yesterday, the Patriots now stand alone on top of the AFC East Division with a 4-2 record.  Their last victory came on a snowy afternoon in Foxboro against the Tennessee Titans. There were two unexpected occurrences Sunday at Gillette Stadium. For one it looked like January in October.  Secondly, the Patriots won by a total of 59 points.

Tom Brady made history on week six of 2009 regular season play, throwing for six touchdown passes (five in the second quarter alone) and 380 yards from his 29 completions. “Every week we’re learning something more about ourselves and what we can do,” said Brady. “There’s no doubt a game like this can give you a lot of confidence.” Brady wasn’t the only one with a break through game with Wes Welker and Randy Moss combining for five touchdown receptions. RB Laurence Maroney finally proved himself a threat with 123 yards and a TD from his 16 game carries.

The Titans will have a lot to work on during their bye week before they match up with the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 1st. “I’m disappointed and embarrassed,” said Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher. “Fortunately for me, career-wise, I have never been through anything like this before and, unfortunately, it happened tonight. I can assure you one thing, it’s not going to happen again.”

The Pats are now scheduled to journey over to Wembley Stadium in London to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, October 25th.  New England Patriots tickets are available now!

Brady/Moss Ready for Titans

Following the Denver Broncos overtime victory last week against the New England Patriots, head coach Bill Belichik called out his team’s lack of offensive production all season long. “Coach hammered into us (Wednesday) that we haven’t had a pass over 40 yards yet this year in five games,” said QB Tom Brady. “It’s something that I’ve got to do a better job of.”

Brady continued to talk about how he and WR Randy Moss will be looking to break out next week against the 0-5 Tennessee Titans. Moss has been struggling since week 1 when they played the Buffalo Bills. The Pro Bowler has caught one touchdown pass in five games, two years after setting an NFL record with 23 TD receptions from Brady in 2007. His longest completed play this year has been for 30 yards.

Tennessee will certainly be hungry for a win knowing the way they started off their 2009 campaign. “We’ve made our own mess,” said Titans coach Jeff Fisher said. “We have to find our way out of it.”

The Patriots defense and overall organization has been thrilled this week after welcoming back LB Junior Seau. ESPN has reported for him to be ready to go on Sunday. Game time is set for Sunday, 4:15 at Gillette Stadium.

Patriots Gear Up for 3-0 Ravens

Last time the New England Patriots matched up against the Baltimore Ravens was in December of 2007 when they were 16-0 bound for the regular season.  Baltimore gave the Pats their toughest game of the year, knowing Brady’s go-ahead TD pass with 44 seconds remaining was the deciding factor in the 27-24 victory. Ray Lewis and The Ravens will be more than ready to go heading into week 4 this Sunday at Gillette.

New England and Baltimore have met a total of four times where the Patriots have shown undefeated. Behind young quarterback Joe Flacco this season the Ravens have coasted to a 3-0 start. Head coach John Harbaugh has had nothing but praise for Flacco, who has earned six TD passes thus far.

“I think he sees things better. He’s quicker with the ball versus pressure,” said Harbaugh. “He’s got a better understanding of how it all ties together with the protection and the routes. He knows how to get guys lined up. I mean, there are a thousand things that Joe does better than he did a year ago.”

Tom Brady and his offense are trying to avoid their worst start in four years.  Brady is currently 3 of 10 for 10 yards in the red zone but has faith that the offense will improve for next game. “It’s just execution,” said Brady. “It’s everybody being on the same page and making the reads and throws and something we’ll evaluate and look at. We can’t keep kicking field goals, I know that. We’ve got to be better than that.”

Brady is hoping wide receiver Wes Welker will be back in action Sunday to give him more options down field.  Welker contributed in New England’s week 1 win over Buffalo with 12 receptions, and since then has definitely been missed.  The high intensity Baltimore defense coming to town will serve as a true test for the Patriots.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.

Patriots Sign LB Prescott Burgess

The New England Patriots just recently acquired linebacker Prescott Burgress from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week for a seventh-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Burgess has two prior years of experience under his belt, and will be expected to come in and contribute immediately for New England’s thin backfield. The Patriots only played two linebackers against the Jets last Sunday (Gary Guyton and Adalius Thomas).

Week 3’s game against the Atlanta Falcons is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th at 1:00 pm.  This will be the first time since 2005 and the 12th time ever that Atlanta and New England have matched up.  After a heartbreaking loss in New York, Tom Brady will look to rally his squad back as he has many times before.  Bill Belichick is 2-0 against the Falcons as Patriots head coach.

Patriots Win Over Bills in Dramatic Fashion

ESPN analyst and sportscaster Chris Berman brought up the old saying “that’s why they play the game” at half time during the New England Patriots Buffalo Bills Monday night showdown at Gillette Stadium. The Bills were ahead and in control for the entire game, aside from the last portion of the fourth quarter when Tom Brady connected with TE Ben Watson for two touchdowns.  The 12 point swing resulted in a New England 25-24 victory.

With two minutes left on the clock and all time outs still available, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick decided for special teams to kick off deep with hopes that the defense would take care of business. Special teams decided to bring it back earlier than expected, stripping the ball and recovering Leodis McKelvin’s fumble to set up the go-ahead TD.

Tom Brady in his first game since week 1 of last season completed 39 passes for 378 yards.  Randy Moss came up with 141 yards from 12 grabs, outplaying Buffalo’s newly acquired wide-out Terrell Owens (held to 46 yards).  “I felt good all night, we were just off. The plays we needed to make - fourth downs we missed, third downs we missed, two chances in the red area, the interception - those things really get you behind the 8-ball,” said Brady. “We recovered with just a few seconds left. Sometimes it happens like that. It’s a pretty special victory.”

The Pats will have the week to correct their mistakes and look forward to their Sunday game against the New York Jets at Giants Stadium.
