All thoughts were with Whitney Houston on music’s biggest night. First time Grammys host, LL Cool J, began with a prayer for the recently departed singer, saying “We’ve had a death in the family” before introducing a clip of Houston’s spell-bounding performance of “I Will Always Love You” from a previous Grammys’ ceremony. Veteran rock band Foo Fighters will follow up this month’s spring concert run with another round of U.S. shows this September. They are slated to perform at Toronto’s Air Canada Center and Montreal’s Bell Center August 9th and 10th before kicking off their North American string of shows (more)
Comprised of Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, Queens of the Stone Age singer and guitarist Josh Homme, and former Nirvana and Foo Fighters drummer/guitarist/singer Dave Grohl; Them Crooked Vultures has been working on a studio album together for three years. Billboard.com confirms that the group has been booked to play the Lollapalooza aftershow at the Metro on August 9th. Tickets go on sale this week, but expect demand to be high! The band has also hinted at European festival dates and a North American tour along with the release of their debut album.

Some nominations for the 59th Grammy Awards on February 9, 2009 were announced last night as part of a TV Concert Special to celebrate the Grammys. Topping the list of nominees are Coldplay who got 7 nods and rapper Lil’ Wayne who received 8 nominations. Last night’s celebration included performances by the Foo Fighters, Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift.
Also receiving multiple nominations were Robert Plant, Radiohead and John Mayer. Stay tuned for more nominations as they are announced.
