I was eight-years old when I bought my first Eminem CD. Flashback to being in my room, blaring his songs/vows to stuff his ex-wife, Kim, in the trunk of his car and drive off a cliff. (Played on a censored CD, of course, because all responsible parents were worried about his cursing.) Now Eminem is not the raging, sociopathic Slim Shady that I once knew and loved but I’m still ready to embrace his new album, Marshall Mathers LP2. (more)
Jay-Z has a very close-knit and outspoken relationship with his hometown (think hit songs “Empire State of Mind” and “Run This Town”), which is why he decided to bring a two-time concert collaboration with Eminem to Yankee Stadium and Eminem’s home stadium, Comerica Park in Detroit. The scheduled performance at Yankee stadium on September 13th and 14th is part of the “Home to Home” tour that will follow the September 3rd and 4th performances at Detroit’s Comerica Park as a part of a four-night concert event produced by Live Nation.
This mini tour is just the beginning of a strong partnership between the rapper and the Yanks- with the team announcing today that the hip-hop star will be producing a limited edition set of Jay-Z endorsed Yankee memorabilia, including T-Shirts, sweatshirts, fitted caps and more to go along with he and Eminem’s performances at Yankee stadium next month. The items, branded with an official Jay-Z logo, went on sale yesterday and will only be up for grabs up until September 14th. The two nights at the new Yankee Stadium will be the first concert that the venue has seen since opening its gates last year.
Jay-Z completed his 2010 “BP3″ tour to further promote his latest album The Blueprint 3 back in March and hasn’t been on tour since until now. Meanwhile Eminem’s highly anticipated 7th studio album release Recovery, has been on the charts since mid-June. Rumor has it the two rappers will invite some of their closest friends, also some of the hottest names in the industry- among past collaborations is Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Drake- though nothing is set in stone. The “Home to Home” tour is just the next etch in Jay-Z’s long list of collaborations, which he’s already following up with a 5-track EP with Kanye West for this fall called Watch the Throne. Tickets are still available to see Jay-Z and Eminem at Yankee Stadium, sure to be the must see show of the fall.
Mega-star rappers Eminem and Jay-Z are set to team up for two shows in their respective hometowns on Thursday, September 2nd at Comerica Park and Sunday, September 13th at Yankee Stadium. During a Tigers vs. Yankees game this past Wednesday, Eminem stated “this is a once in a lifetime set of shows, and I know we’re both really going to bring it to our home-towns.” Jay-Z added on to emphasize the importance showcasing their talents, saying “we wanted to stretch the genre of hip hop music and show that it can play live audiences.”
Jay-Z just recently completed his 2010 “BP3″ tour to further promote his latest album The Blueprint 3. Singles “Run This Town” and “New York” have both received heavy airplay over the past several months. Eminem is working towards the release of his 7th studio project Recovery, which is set to drop in stores Tuesday, June 22nd.
