Tom Petty to Play Comcast Center

Posted by Ace Staff on July 22nd, 2010

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have caused quite a commotion with his latest album Mojo. Breaking the silence, Mojo is the first Petty album in eight years. One of America’s greatest live bands since their first club tours and opening-act jobs in 1976 and ’77, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ made what Rolling Stone calls a “matured return to the elementary fury of their first golden-twang era, capped by 1981′s Hard Promises [with] cocksure grooves, pithy knife-play guitars and little overdub fuss – worked up, then nailed.” The album also received comparisons to the Rolling Stones reissued Exile on Main Street, a record that’s been dubbed the 7th greatest album of all time. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their debut self-titled album in 1976, a rock and roll revival amidst an era of punk and new wave. The record was equal parts garage rock, British Invasion, with Bob Dylan-inspired, storytelling lyrics. Their second album You’re Gonna Get It! spawned the singles “Listen to her Heart” and “I Need to Know.” It wasn’t until 1979’s Damn the Torpedoes came out that the hit single “Refugee” finally catapulted Petty to stardom in the US. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Petty and the Heartbreakers continued to crank out hits like “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “Runnin Down a Dream,” “Free Fallin,” “Learning to Fly,” and “You Don’t Know How It Feels”. A workhorse touring schedule and legendary live sets cemented their dedicated fanbase.   The group has hit the road again in light of their 2010 studio album, having already played eleven venues in the past month and looking to play about thirty more through early October with the accompaniment of artists such as My Morning Jacket, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills and Nash and ZZ Top. The Mojo tour is bound to make a promising live show as the album was produced with a great live adaptation in mind- specifically one to compete with his ‘80’s career. The result is proof that Petty and the Heartbreakers have regained their past mojo on the new album, and in doing so they’ve outdone themselves. The band will be coming to Mansfield’s Comcast Center for August 19th and 21st to put the new album to the test.

Idols, Santana Highlight Comcast Center

Posted by Ace Staff on July 16th, 2010

The coming attractions at the Comcast Center through the end of July kick off with American Idols Live this Saturday. This live concert event of America’s favorite sing-off show will feature the Top 10 finalists from the latest season, Season 9 of American Idol, giving everyone a chance to watch their favorite contestant perform despite that they may not have won. The contestants of Season 9 were massively popular among the public. The top two- winner Lee DeWyze, who never landed in the bottom 3 all season, and Crystal Bowersox, who brought the charisma to the cast, will be among the performers. Performing alongside the top 2 will be the other 8 finalists, Casey James, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly, Siobhan Magnus, Tim Urban, Andrew Garcia, Katie Stevens, Didi Benami, Paige Miles and Lacey Brown. Santana and Steve Winwood are scheduled to visit the Comcast Center next Friday, July 23rd, and having just proposed to longtime girlfriend Cindy Blackman during a show in Illinois last Friday, Santana is looking to show his love the way he does best: through music. Currently putting the finishing touches in his upcoming album called Guitar Heaven, Santana and tour mate Winwood provide a trip down memory lane with a rock-fusion jam that fully utilizes their 10-piece band. The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival is coming to the Comcast on Tuesday, July 27th  for a metal-heavy day featuring some of the biggest names in hard rock, including: Stemm, Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu, Norma Jean, 3 Inches of Blood, In This Moment, Hatebreed, Chimaira, Shadows Fall and Winds of Plague. Not to be outshone, the Honda Civic Tour may not have as many names on program, but the pairing of Paramore and Tegan and Sara is just as show stopping. Though Paramore is a fresh, young band (its fiery front girl Hayley Williams just 21 years old), their latest release Brand New Eyes has proved to be a success, ranked 20 of Spin Magazine’s Top 40 albums of 2009. The Honda Civic Tour takes place Wednesday July 28th. (more)

Comcast Center Set for Tim McGraw

Posted by Ace Staff on July 13th, 2010

One of the biggest stars to ever hit country music, Tim McGraw, is performing this coming Saturday at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. Touring with the more recent country phenomenon Lady Antebellum, McGraw and his band, the Dancehall Doctors, kicked off a six-month North American tour in February in promotion of his 12th studio album, Southern Voice, released in October 2009. The album focuses on his small town upbringings, while also featuring light-hearted summertime anthems such as the single “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure with You”. The tour has been underway since February 11th where it began in Omaha, NE and will wrap up at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, August 15th. McGraw recently performed at this year’s CMT Music Awards in Nashville alongside a star-studded cast including Zac Brown Band, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and host Kid Rock. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill also held a charity concert in June called Nashville Rising to benefit flood recovery throughout Tennessee. With a touring history that goes back over 22 years, McGraw’s last collaborative tour took place in 2006 with wife Faith Hill. The 73-concert, 55-city Soul2Soul II tour sold 1.1 million tickets, becoming the top grossing tour in country music history. His tours are known for being energetic and fast-paced, with McGraw steamrolling through his career in an hour and a half’s span. McGraw has won a total of 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 10 American Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards and three Grammys throughout his career while also taking on several acting roles including last year’s The Blind Side and a lead role in 1996’s Flicka. Tickets for Tim McGraw live in concert are now available!

Jack Johnson Summer Tour Dates

Posted by Ace Staff on July 7th, 2010

With the release of his latest album To the Sea in June, Jack Johnson ironically packed away his surfboard and headed to land for the promotion tour that will make its way to the US next week. The Hawaiian surfer turned songwriter is currently on tour in Europe, performing several shows in Germany, France and the UK before coming to the US July 9th and playing at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA on July 10th. His previous album, Sleep Through the Static (2008) debuted #1 on Billboard album charts and stayed there for three weeks, selling more copies than Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black. Like his 2008 tour, 100% of the profits from his 2010 tour will be donated directly to All at Once and the Johnson Ohama Charitable Organization. All at Once is a social action network Johnson created where “you can make a positive change in your local and world community”. This year’s All at Once campaign features over 150 non-profit groups and focuses on supporting Sustainable Local Food Systems and Plastic Free Initiatives. Along with living green, Johnson also takes pride in that his family does not own a TV, does not follow current pop culture and lives just steps from the glorious Hawaiian surf. Rolling Stone dubbed Johnson “the world’s mellowest superstar”. “To the Sea is about trying to go beneath the surface and understanding yourself,” Johnson told MTV News. “I have three kids … so the album is about that. It’s both me as a son of my own father and me looking down at my kids.” The first single from his fifth studio album “You and Your Heart” is a more happy-go-lucky addition to his catalog, an upbeat, guitar-driven song with an encouraging message.  Johnson is touring throughout the US from July to October and will wrap up the tour and year in Australia.

Comcast Center to Host Ozzfest in August

Posted by Ace Staff on July 7th, 2010

Ozzfest is just around the corner, with its six touring dates coming up in August, Ozzfest lineup and news announcements are still making their way into the headlines. Two weeks ago, Ozzy announced that for the first time since the festival began in 1996 the show will go overseas, playing in London with a separate lineup.   This year’s US lineup includes the ever present Ozzy Osbourne as a headliner alongside Motley Crue, Rob Halford, DevilDriver and Nonpoint on the main stage. Playing on the second stage is Black Label Society, Drowning Pool, Kingdom of Sorrow, Goatwhore, Skeletonwitch, Saviors and Kataklysm. With only six US touring dates for the third week of August, Ozzfest will be making its way to Mansfield’s Comcast Center August 24th for a full day of heavy metal. Taking a hiatus from Ozzfest last year, Ozzy Osbourne decided to use the summer to record, coming up with 2010’s Scream featuring the single “Let Me Heart You Scream”. The album was released mid-June and will be promoted in a world-tour following the summer Ozzfest dates. As his tenth studio album, Scream debuted as number one on US and UK hard rock charts. The album celebrates the three decade mark of Ozzy Osbourne’s career and the 2010 festival marks the 12th annual Ozzfest since the festival was created in 1996 after Lollapalooza refused to add Ozzy to their lineup.
