Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have caused quite a commotion with his latest album Mojo. Breaking the silence, Mojo is the first Petty album in eight years. One of America’s greatest live bands since their first club tours and opening-act jobs in 1976 and ’77, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ made what Rolling Stone calls a “matured return to the elementary fury of their first golden-twang era, capped by 1981′s Hard Promises [with] cocksure grooves, pithy knife-play guitars and little overdub fuss – worked up, then nailed.” The album also received comparisons to the Rolling Stones reissued Exile on Main Street, a record that’s been dubbed the 7th greatest album of all time.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their debut self-titled album in 1976, a rock and roll revival amidst an era of punk and new wave. The record was equal parts garage rock, British Invasion, with Bob Dylan-inspired, storytelling lyrics. Their second album You’re Gonna Get It! spawned the singles “Listen to her Heart” and “I Need to Know.” It wasn’t until 1979’s Damn the Torpedoes came out that the hit single “Refugee” finally catapulted Petty to stardom in the US. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Petty and the Heartbreakers continued to crank out hits like “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “Runnin Down a Dream,” “Free Fallin,” “Learning to Fly,” and “You Don’t Know How It Feels”. A workhorse touring schedule and legendary live sets cemented their dedicated fanbase.
The group has hit the road again in light of their 2010 studio album, having already played eleven venues in the past month and looking to play about thirty more through early October with the accompaniment of artists such as My Morning Jacket, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills and Nash and ZZ Top. The Mojo tour is bound to make a promising live show as the album was produced with a great live adaptation in mind- specifically one to compete with his ‘80’s career. The result is proof that Petty and the Heartbreakers have regained their past mojo on the new album, and in doing so they’ve outdone themselves. The band will be coming to Mansfield’s Comcast Center for August 19th and 21st to put the new album to the test.
The coming attractions at the Comcast Center through the end of July kick off with American Idols Live this Saturday. This live concert event of America’s favorite sing-off show will feature the Top 10 finalists from the latest season, Season 9 of American Idol, giving everyone a chance to watch their favorite contestant perform despite that they may not have won. The contestants of Season 9 were massively popular among the public. The top two- winner Lee DeWyze, who never landed in the bottom 3 all season, and Crystal Bowersox, who brought the charisma to the cast, will be among the performers. Performing alongside the top 2 will be the other 8 finalists, Casey James, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly, Siobhan Magnus, Tim Urban, Andrew Garcia, Katie Stevens, Didi Benami, Paige Miles and Lacey Brown.
Santana and Steve Winwood are scheduled to visit the Comcast Center next Friday, July 23rd, and having just proposed to longtime girlfriend Cindy Blackman during a show in Illinois last Friday, Santana is looking to show his love the way he does best: through music. Currently putting the finishing touches in his upcoming album called Guitar Heaven, Santana and tour mate Winwood provide a trip down memory lane with a rock-fusion jam that fully utilizes their 10-piece band.

Though Paramore is a fresh, young band (its fiery front girl Hayley Williams just 21 years old), their latest release Brand New Eyes has proved to be a success, ranked 20 of Spin Magazine’s Top 40 albums of 2009. The Honda Civic Tour takes place Wednesday July 28th. (more)
One of the biggest stars to ever hit country music, Tim McGraw, is performing this coming Saturday at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. Touring with the more recent country phenomenon Lady Antebellum, McGraw and his band, the Dancehall Doctors, kicked off a six-month North American tour in February in promotion of his 12th studio album, Southern Voice, released in October 2009. The album focuses on his small town upbringings, while also featuring light-hearted summertime anthems such as the single “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure with You”.
The tour has been underway since February 11th where it began in Omaha, NE and will wrap up at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, August 15th. McGraw recently performed at this year’s CMT Music Awards in Nashville alongside a star-studded cast including Zac Brown Band, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and host Kid Rock. All at Once is a social action network Johnson created where “you can make a positive change in your local and world community”. This year’s All at Once campaign features over 150 non-profit groups and focuses on supporting Sustainable Local Food Systems and Plastic Free Initiatives. Along with living green, Johnson also takes pride in that his family does not own a TV, does not follow current pop culture and lives just steps from the glorious Hawaiian surf. Rolling Stone dubbed Johnson “the world’s mellowest superstar”.
“To the Sea is about trying to go beneath the surface and understanding yourself,” Johnson told MTV News. “I have three kids … so the album is about that. It’s both me as a son of my own father and me looking down at my kids.” The first single from his fifth studio album “You and Your Heart” is a more happy-go-lucky addition to his catalog, an upbeat, guitar-driven song with an encouraging message. Johnson is touring throughout the US from July to October and will wrap up the tour and year in Australia.
