Some nominations for the 59th Grammy Awards on February 9, 2009 were announced last night as part of a TV Concert Special to celebrate the Grammys. Topping the list of nominees are Coldplay who got 7 nods and rapper Lil’ Wayne who received 8 nominations. Last night’s celebration included performances by the Foo Fighters, Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift.
Also receiving multiple nominations were Robert Plant, Radiohead and John Mayer. Stay tuned for more nominations as they are announced.
Coldplay is currently on its second leg of their 2008 tour in support of Viva La Vida with a show scheduled for this Wednesday 10/29 in Boston at the TD Banknorth Garden. As expected the shows are getting awesome reviews as Coldplay establishes itself as one of the premier live acts in rock music. Much like U2 and Radiohead, Coldplay has become one of those must see concerts for rock fans.

With just a few more gigs left on the European leg of their world tour, Coldplay is gearing up for round two in North America. Their first North America show this time around will be on 10/20 in Ottawa. Their 1st American show will be in Cleveland on 10/21. British sensation, Duffy will be the opening act for six of Coldplay’s North American concerts this Fall. Duffy will be appearing at the following shows: 10/21 Cleveland, 10/26 – 10/27 East Rutherford, 10/29 Boston, 10/31 Washington, DC, and 11/1 Philadelphia. Coldplay is excited about having Duffy along with them. “We think she’s brilliant, so we’re very pleased.”
Duffy recently won a MOJO award for Song of the Year for her hit “Mercy”. She album “Rockferry” was also nominated for MOJO’s album of the year.
If you missed them the first time around, no need to worry because Coldplay will be making another stop in Boston on Oct. 29, 2008 during the final weeks of their world tour. The band that has enjoyed renowned worldwide success added another gig in Boston after the impressive turnout to their first show on Aug. 4th at the TD Banknorth Garden.
The band is currently taking a few weeks off to gear up for the second half of their tour which features stops in European countries such as France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Belgium and Hungary. A quick stop in Canada will follow and then they will rock 16 US cities including Boston, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City and Phoenix. Once they finish up all their shows in the US, they’ll travel back overseas to the United Kingdom for 14 shows total in seven cities including three in Birmingham, two in Manchester and three in London. The tour will conclude with its final show in Dublin, Ireland on December 21, 2008.

UK Rockers Coldplay are letting their fans choose a local band to open for them in six cities on their current US tour. Fans in San Jose, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Hartford, and Boston have the opportunity to vote for the band they want to go on before Coldplay in their city.
The finalists have been chosen, and voting is underway for the Boston date. Aloud, The Luxyury, The Family Township, Fendline, Aberdeen City, The Motion Sick, The Brother Kite, Old Abram Brown, Deadly, Hooray for Earth, Filligar, Superduperrad, Plumerai, Hello Ninja, and Common Thrill are in the running to start the Boston show.
