On Thursday, April 1st, the multi-talented Somali-Canadian artist Knaan will be at Boston’s House of Blues. The poet/rapper/musician is known for being dedicated to global change since leaving Somalia at the age of 13. He has been affiliated with many UN events, and also collaborated with artists such as Nelly Furtado, Mos Def, The Roots, and Pharoahe Monch. Co-headlining the show is Walewith special guest John Forte. General admission tickets are available for $59. Popular indie rock band Vampire Weekend will be performing at The Orpheum Theatre the same day. The band is touring in support of their second album Contra, which was released in January of 2010 and features popular singles “Cousins” and “Giving Up the Gun.” Orchestra tickets for this concert start at $99.
On Friday, April 2nd, stand-up comedian Doug Benson will be at The Wilbur Theatre at 7:30 PM. Benson is highly recognized through appearances on shows that include Comedy Central’s “The A-List” and “Two Drink Minimum.” He’s also been seen on HBO’s “Mr. Show” and currently hosts the popular comedy podcast “I Love Movies with Doug Benson.” Tickets for his Boston performance start at just $65.
Southern rock/country band Drive By Truckers is set to play the House of Blues on Friday with Lucero. Drive By Truckers have been touring for over a decade, in turn helping them establish a large and dedicated fan base. Lucero also has a rapidly growing fan base, playing an average of 150-200 shows a year since 2001. Also due to appear is Langhorne Slim. General Admission tickets are being sold for $65. British buzz-band The XX has two shows lined up this weekend at the Paradise Rock Club in support of their album xx with lead single “Crystalised.” Presented by local radio station WFNX, the 6 PM show will feature Nosaj Thing as the opener and the 9 PM show will have JJ on the bill. On Saturday, April 3rd, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will visit Boston’s House of Blues. BRMC’s history has been marked with various line-up changes and hiatuses, but 2010 sees them back with a recently released studio album, Beat the Devils Tattoo. Alberta Cross is the opening act and GA tickets are available for $60.
If you’re looking for comedy this weekend, Bruce Bruce will be at the Wilbur Theatre on Saturday at 7:30 PM. Bruce has appeared on various shows on Comedy Central, MTV, and BET, as well as many films such as Larry the Cable Guy and Idlewild. Mezzanine tickets for the 7:30 PM show are available for $69. Since the weather is supposed to be beautiful in Boston, it’s a great time to take the family to the circus! On Thursday, March 25th, Norah Jones will grace the stage of Boston’s Citi Performing Arts Center (Wang Theatre). The daughter of well-known satirist Ravi Shankar, Jones has sold more albums than any other female jazz artist this past decade. She is currently touring in support of her fourth album, The Fall. Orchestra seats are available starting at $89 each.
Another event on Thursday is Gabriel Iglesias at the Wilbur Theatre. The comedian who got his start on Nickelodeon’s “All That” will bring his comedic styling including impressions and animated story telling to the stage for two performances at 7:00 and 9:45 PM. Tickets start at $65.
Boston’s House of Blues will host Spoon, Dearhunter, and The Strange Boys on Saturday, March 27th. Spoon returns to the area in support of their seventh studio album, Transference. The band has gained popularity over the past few years with songs such as “The Underdog” and “I Turn My Camera On,” being featured on many television, movie, and video game soundtracks. Stadium seats for this concert start at $69 and floor tickets are just $79.
Also at the House of Blues this weekend is HIM, on Sunday, March 28th. The rock band from Helsinki was the first Finnish band to have a gold album in the United States with 2006′s Dark Light. Their most recent album, Heartkiller, was just released on March 3rd of this year, so for many New England area fans, the concert at House of Blues will be the first chance to hear the new songs live. Immensely popular Latin-lounge-pop act Pink Martini are coming to the Boston Opera House. The 16-piece band will perform at the Opera House on June 10th at 8:00pm. Singer China Forbes is expecting her first child, and this short 5-date tour may be their only set of dates for a while. Pink Martini are still touring in support of 2007′s “Hey Eugene”, but the band has been debuting new material.

The Holiday season is almost upon us and its not too soon to start planning for some upcoming Holiday events. As always Boston will be in the spirit of the season with several Holiday themed shows from the classic Holiday Pops to new shows like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. (more)
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is on tour in support of his first solo album, the soundtrack for the film Into The Wild. Vedder launched the tour in April to positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
“This will be an amazing opportunity for fans to see Eddie Vedder in such intimate settings” said RCA Music Group VP Matt Shay at a recent press conference.
Fans should expect plenty of songs from the Grammy-nominated Into The Wild, some Pearl Jam favorites (“I Am Mine” has been played at most of the shows), and a wide range of covers (songs by Daniel Johnston, James Taylor, Tom Petty, Bob Dylam, and Tom Waits were played at the first show on the tour. Much like Pearl Jam shows; Marathon set-times, double encores, and audience interaction are all the norm. Wild standouts standouts “No More”, “Hard Sun”, and “Guaranteed” are featured prominently in the sets.
After the month-long jaunt, Vedder will join up with the rest of Pearl Jam to resume work on their next as-yet untitled ninth album.
Liam Finn (son of Crowded House frontman Neil Finn) will be opening for Vedder on all the dates of the tour.
