Clay Buchholz allowed in three runs on a scattered eight hits and racked up seven strikeouts to lift his Boston Red Sox past the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 yesterday at Camden Yards. One of the only bright spots on the pitching staff this year, Buchholz earned his 11th win of the season while helping the Red Sox avoid what would have been a disastrous three-game sweep in Baltimore.  (more)

The New York Mets recently acquired veteran catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named. The Red Sox placed Shoppach on waivers and the Mets put a claim on him, intending to utilize the eight-year veteran against left-handed pitchers. (more)
