The Boston Celtics have reportedly just hired Jay Larranaga as an assistant coach. The former head coach of the NBA Developmental League’s Erie Bayhawks led the team to a 60-40 record over the past two seasons. He is the son of University of Miami basketball head coach Jim Larranaga. (more)

Rookie QB Ryan Mallett connected with Alex Silvestro for touchdown 1:16 into the second quarter, but a pair of costly turnovers soon after resulted in the Philadelphia Eagles win Monday night’s preseason contest 27-17 over the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The Pats fumbled twice at the end of the half, which ultimately gift wrapped an extra 14 points for the Eagles to find themselves back in the game. (more)

Patriots to Sign Olympian Jeff Demps

The New England Patriots are currently working out a deal with Olympic sprinter and former Florida RB Jeff Demps. Competing as part of the 400-meter relay team that finished second, Demps was undrafted in April while he was preparing for the Olympics. He played in 12 games last season at the University of Florida, rushing for 569 yards and six touchdowns. (more)
