Celtics Win 11th Straight, Without KG

Posted by Ace Staff on February 2nd, 2009

In Sunday’s matchup, former Celtics put up 61 points on their old team. Current Celtic Paul Pierce answered with a 36-point, 8 rebound, 6 assist effort in the absence of the “biggest” of the Big Three. “I just try to give the game what it needs. Today, I thought it needed my scoring,” Paul told Jimmy Golen of the AP. “You go off and say ‘Hey, I’ve still got it.’ Even at 31.” Al Jefferson, a major piece in the deal that brought Kevin Garnett over from the Timberwolves, had 34 Pts and 11 rebounds against his old club. Boston led by as many as 21, but a 15 of 17 Minnesota run eventually put them within 5 points. But Allen and Pierce had a jumper and two free throws to put the C’s back up by 9

Celtics Dominate Kings for 9th Straight Win

Posted by Ace Staff on January 29th, 2009

Eddie House shot 8-9 from beyond the arc to score a career high 28 points as the C’s handled the Sacramento Kings 119-100 last night in Boston.  Point guard Rajon Rondo scored 24 points and dished out 28 assists.  Glen Davis, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen scored 14, 14, and 12. Paul Pierce chipped in with eight points and eight assists in his 27 minutes played. After the game Garnett made it a mission to promote Eddie House for the upcoming NBA All-Star events.  “He needs to be in the 3-point contest,” he said.  “That’s what this press conference is about: Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are here to say that we think Eddie House needs to be in the 3-point contest.”  Garnett and Pierce aren’t the only people supporting House, knowing the crowd chanted his name whenever he touched the ball along with giving him a standing ovation when he left the court with 4 minutes left. The C’s gave Sacramento their seventh straight loss as they continue a winning streak of their own.  John Salmons and Jason Thompson led the Kings scoring 22 and 21 points, but their efforts weren’t enough to make it even a close game. Boston’s next test will be January 30th against the Pistons in Detroit.  The Pistons will be looking to end the streak with the Celtics hoping to keep rolling heading into the All-Star break. House Leads the Charge; Celtics Win 6 Straight

Posted by Ace Staff on January 22nd, 2009

Eddie House scored 20 points in the second quarter alone last night in a 98-83 Boston Celtics victory over the Miami Heat.  House shot 7-11 from 3 point range and finished the game with 25.  Ray Allen scored a game high 27 for the C’s, contributing to the teams 15 for 25 3-point shooting percentage.  Kevin Garnett scored 16 points, and pulled down 13 rebounds.  Paul Pierce added 14 points. House, who was with the Heat for his first three seasons in the league says although he’s used to Miami’s American Airlines Arena, his performance didn’t have much to do with the gym itself.  “I don’t think this had anything to do with the building,” he said.  “I was just getting open looks.  We concentrated on moving the ball, and this is what happened.” Dwayne Wade received the NBA player of the month award for December at the half as the Heat trailed the Celtics 57-34.  Wade scored 25 points for Miami followed by Deaquan Cook who finished with 20. Up next for the Celtics is a tough match up tonight against the Orlando Magic; a team currently leading the league with a 33-8 record. The Celtics beat the Magic earlier this season, making this a payback game for Orlando.  Looking ahead Celtics coach Doc Rivers states “We’re obviously not where we want to be but we’re starting to trend in the right direction.” Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Celtics Cruise By Suns

Posted by Ace Staff on January 20th, 2009

The Boston Celtics kept the winning streak rolling at the Garden last night, as they easily handled the Pheonix Suns 104-87.  Rajon Rondo had a big night scoring 23 points and dishing out 7 assists, before he and the rest of the starters sat for the entire fourth quarter.  The game was decided after the first half with a 30 point advantage to the Celtics.  Ray Allen scored 20 points in his 32 minutes; as Garnett and Pierce finished with 16 and 12 respectively. Shaquille O’Neal led the Suns with 16 points, and Nash followed with 12 points and 8 assists.  When asked about the C’s play,  Nash simply stated the Celtics “put on a clinic for us tonight.”  The game brought back memories of the Celtics’ 19 game winning streak earlier in the season. After a recent mid-season drought, they seem to be back in cruise control as they have won 5 in a row.  When asked about their season Pierce stated “I never really thought we lost our confidence. We’re still the defending champions. It’s just a matter of remembering who we are as a team.”  Next the Celtics travel to Florida, facing off against the Heat the 21st, followed by Orlando on the 22nd. Celtics Dominate Nets Again

Posted by Ace Staff on January 19th, 2009

The last time the Celtics and Nets met, the Celtics made it look easy in a 118-86 rout. Saturday night’s game was no different, with the C’s nearly doubling up on New Jersey in the first half. The Celtics benefited from Rajon Rondo’s near triple double (9 rebounds, 14 assists, and 8 points, along with 2 steals),  solid play off the bench from Leon Powe and Eddie House, and Ray Allen’s 25 point effort. “It was a great start,” C’s coach Doc Rivers told the AP. “It’s one of the things we talked about. If you get off to a good start, it gives you a chance to play well the whole game. I thought the whole team was running well.” The Celtics will host the Phoenix Suns at home tonight at the Garden. Keep your eyes on Shaquille O’Neal’s Twitter feed in case he any enlightening post-game comments. Boston Celtics Tickets are available now!

Celtics Back in Form With Win Over Nets

Posted by Ace Staff on January 15th, 2009

Last night’s 118-86 rout of the New Jersey Nets was just what the Boston Celtics needed.  The win was the third in a row for the Celtics who recently had a 2-7 slump to deal with.  The last three games have seen the Celtics really return to form.  Now at the halfway point of the season the Celtics’ record is 32-9 just two games off of last year’s pace. Paul Pierce did most of the scoring last night for Boston with 22 points total. Pierce went 5-5 on 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter putting the Celtics well out in front of the Nets.  Kevin Garnett added 20 points and 9 rebounds.  Glen Davis added 12 points off the bench. Last night’s loss was the sixth straight for the Nets against the Celtics. They’ll get another shot on Saturday night when Boston visits the Nets in New Jersey.  The Celtics will be back at the Garden on 1/19 to host the Suns.  Celtics tickets are available for this and all remaining 2009 games.

Celtics Top Raptors on 39 Points by Pierce

Posted by Ace Staff on January 13th, 2009

Paul Pierce was determined to get the Celtics past the Raptors last night. The team leader dropped 39 points on Toronto scoring 9 of them in OT to seal the 115-109 victory by the Boston Celtics.  Pierce played 49 minutes in Monday night’s game despite the fact that he had a bad knee due to a collision in Sunday’s game.  Kevin Garnett added 20 points and 12 rebounds for Boston.  The win was Boston’s 2nd in a row after losing 7 of 9 and put the Celtics at 31-9 on the year. After playing 2 in a row against the Raptors, the Celtics will do the same with the New Jersey Nets. The Nets will play the Celtics at the TD Banknorth Garden on Wednesday 1/14 and the Celtics will travel to New Jersey for Saturday’s game with the Nets.  Celtics tickets are available for these and all Celtics games both at home and on the road.

Celtics Look to Bounce Back vs Cavs

Posted by Ace Staff on January 9th, 2009

The Boston Celtics have been on a 2-6 skid since having their winning streak derailed by the Los Angeles Lakers. Amid speculation of acquiring Knick Stephon Marbury and the rapidly approaching trade deadline, the C’s need to either right the ship or figure out what they need. The Cavaliers, looking for revenge for being knocked out of the playoffs last year and an opening night loss this year, have usurped the C’s as top team in the NBA in most power rankings. Tip-off is at 8:00pm at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. 2009 Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Source: Celtics and Marbury Closer To A Deal

Posted by Ace Staff on January 6th, 2009

ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that Stephon Marbury’s falling out with the New York Knicks could lead to him playing for the Green. With the losses of James Posey and PJ Brown, and the free agent pool quickly dwindling; Marbury could be a low-cost veteran precence off of the bench. Despite recent failures in buyout discussions with the Knicks, Stein’s source says that “it will happen” in due time.  “I didn’t want to be a distraction for the team first and me second” Marbury wrote on his New York Post Blog. “I honestly came to help the team win. Real talk. I was willing to put in the work necessary to earn my starting spot and humble enough to accept coming off of the bench.” The Knicks beat the Celtics 100 to 88 on Saturday in New York.  Boston shot just 29.5% in the second half, and failed to capitalize on late chances to take the game back. Celtics Streak Halted By Lakers

Posted by Ace Staff on December 26th, 2008

20 straight wins would have been a great Christmas present from the Boston Celtics to their fans but alas they were bound to lose one sooner or later.  Most in Boston would have preffered any team beat them other than the Los Angeles Lakers however.  The Lakers won this mini battle yesterday at the Staples Center with an impressive defensive showing in their 92-83 win over Boston.  The win improved the Lakers’ record to 24-5 while the Celtics move to 27-3.  The game between last year’s Championship rivals had the feel of a Finals game despite the fact that this season isn’t half over. Both teams still have a long road ahead before they meet in any seriously important games. Kobe Bryant was the scoring leader for the Lakers in this one with 27 points and 9 rebounds.  Boston meanwhile got a great shooting game out of Kevin Garnett who added 22 points and 9 rebounds.  Paul Pierce scored 20 with 10 rebounds but failed to score in the crucial 4th quarter.  The win for the Lakers was Phil Jackson’s 1,000th career win as a head coach. The Celtics and Lakers will meet again on 2/5/09 at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. Celtics vs Lakers tickets are available for this game.
