20 straight wins would have been a great Christmas present from the Boston Celtics to their fans but alas they were bound to lose one sooner or later. Most in Boston would have preffered any team beat them other than the Los Angeles Lakers however. The Lakers won this mini battle yesterday at the Staples Center with an impressive defensive showing in their 92-83 win over Boston. The win improved the Lakers’ record to 24-5 while the Celtics move to 27-3. The game between last year’s Championship rivals had the feel of a Finals game despite the fact that this season isn’t half over. Both teams still have a long road ahead before they meet in any seriously important games.
Kobe Bryant was the scoring leader for the Lakers in this one with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Boston meanwhile got a great shooting game out of Kevin Garnett who added 22 points and 9 rebounds. Paul Pierce scored 20 with 10 rebounds but failed to score in the crucial 4th quarter. The win for the Lakers was Phil Jackson’s 1,000th career win as a head coach.
The Celtics and Lakers will meet again on 2/5/09 at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. Celtics vs Lakers tickets are available for this game.
What more can you say about the Boston Celtics? At 27-2 this team is determined not to suffer a Championship hangover and are early favorites to repeat in 2009. The Celtics beat the 76ers last night 110-91 in Boston for a new franchise record 19 wins in a row. To reach the 20 wins in a row mark the Celtics will go up against a much improved and equally impressive Los Angeles Lakers team on Christmas Day at the Staples Center in L.A.
The Celtics were led by Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo last night with each player dropping 18 points on Philadelphia. For their part the Celtics remained grounded about their success. They know that a win streak doesn’t equal a Championship. Just ask the once 19-0 Patriots how that goes. The Celtics will return to the TD Banknorth Garden on 1/2/09 to face the Washington Wizards. Boston plays its next four games on the road.
Boston Celtics tickets are available for all 2009 games.
The Atlanta Hawks seemed to be in control when the 4th Quarter started last night. Kevin Garnett had other plans. KG was only 2-10 shooting from the floor in the first three quarters, but exploded with a dominant 5-5 fourth. In a low-scoring, high-defense game, the C’s managed to drop 29 on the Hawks in the final quarter to seal a 88-85 win. Many sports writers had this game picked out as the most possible streak-ender for the C’s – The Hawks held Boston winless in Atlanta last year in the playoffs.
The win puts the Celtics in a great position to make a run for not only the longest NBA winning streak, but also the best record in NBA history.

Despite losing Captain Paul Pierce to a minor knee injury in the 4th quarter, the Celtics pulled off their 15th consecutive win on Monday Night. Rajon Rondo had a ridiculous night, racking up a career-high 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Both Rondo and Kendrick Perkins were part of a late-game defensive stand that preserved the C’s slim lead, and eventually put the game out of reach. While the Big 3 are a huge part of the winning streak, the youth movement is a force to be reckoned with.
The Celtics play the next game Wednesday at Atlanta. Boston Celtics Tickets are available for all games now.
The 21-2 Boston Celtics cruised to their 13th straight victory last night, showing the Washington Wizards no mercy. The final score was 122-88 as the Celtics seemed to score at will. The Celtics are now officially off to the best start in team history and have their longest win streak since the ’85-’86 season.

The Indiana Pacers continue to give the Boston Celtics trouble. The Celtics needed overtime to avoid their 2nd loss of the year to Indiana, one of only two teams to beat Boston this year. The Celtics relied on Ray Allen’s 35 points to take the 122-117 win at the Canseco Fieldhouse. The win was the 12th in a row for Boston putting them at 20-2 on the year.
Ray Allen’s season high 35 points were just what the Celtics needed. Allen had 12 3 pointers as well. Kevin Garnett also had a huge game for Boston with 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Despite 30 points from Orlando forward Rashard Lewis, the Cetlics walked away from last night’s game with an impressive 9-game winning streak. The C’s kept their cool and held off the Magic for a 107-88 victory, despite a total of 8 technicals being called. With another one on his record, Kendrick Perkins is getting perilously close to being suspended a game for each two T’s.
Rajon Rondo was outstanding moving the ball around yet again, racking up 12 assists.
The Celtics will face the Indiana Pacers at home on Wednesday night. Discount Celtics tickets are still available!
The Celtics and Bruins are at the top of their leagues, and Boston fans face a tough decision on which game to watch tonight. The Bruins are six points ahead of division rival Montreal, and share the Eastern Conference lead with the New York Rangers (with three games in hand). The Celtics have 5.5 games on the Philadelphia 76ers in the Atlantic division, and a 1.5 game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.
The Bruins will face off against the Sabres in Buffalo at 7:00pm. The Black and Gold look to continue their reign as the NHL’s best in goals against, facing a team that they have already dominated twice this season.
The Celtics tip off against the Golden State Warriors at the Garden at 7:30pm. The C’s have won their last five, and are looking to secure their second 6-game winning steak of the young season. On Friday the Celtics will host the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a double header of hockey and basketball at the TD Banknorth Garden. Celtics tickets are available for both of these games now.
Allen Iverson’s move to Detroit has helped the Pistons get past the Lakers and the Cavs but not their Eastern Conference rival, Boston Celtics. The Celtics ruined Iverson’s home debut with Detroit a couple of weeks ago. It was more of the same last night at the TD Banknorth Garden as the Celtics prevailed over Detroit 98-80. Iverson managed 16 points and 4 assists but was outplayed by Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo. Rondo scored 18 and had 8 assists as the leading scorer for Boston last night.
Both teams scored 21 points in the 1st but Boston would pull away in the 2nd and 3rd quarters outscoring Detroit 56-36 in that stretch. The Celtics got 15 points out of Kevin Garnett who returned from a one game suspension. Rasheed Wallace would add 13 points and 6 rebounds for Detroit. Last night marked the 5th straight game where the Celtics held the Pistons to under 90 points.
The Celtics will play their next two games on the road before returning home to the TD Banknorth Garden to host the Golden State Warriors on 11/26. Celtics tickets are available for all remaining 2008-2009 games.
