It took overtime to conclude last night’s contest between the Boston Bruins and Atlanta Thrashers at Phillips Arena, ending with a Patrice Bergeron goal for the only score of the shootout to give his Bruins the 4-3 win. Marco Sturm found the net to start six minutes into the first period, followed by a Michael Ryder goal to give Boston the early advantage heading into the second.

The Thrashers answered back to tie it up before Ryder came through again for the B’s on a power play. Maxim Afinogenov scrambled for Atlanta’s desperation goal with 40 seconds left in regulation, setting the stage for Bergeron to finish the battle in dramatic fashion.

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask came up with 35 saves and completely shut down the Thrashers in OT when it counted. “We have lost several games in shootouts,” said Rask. “We wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again.” Bruins will now make their way to Buffalo to matchup with the Sabres tonight at 7:30 PM. Matt Moulson set the tone early for his squad, scoring the initial goal six minutes into the first period as the New York Islanders went on to defeat the Boston Bruins 4-1 last night at the TD Garden. Daniel Paille found the net for the B’s in the second before Moulson decided to tack another on the board.  From there the Islanders shut down the Boston attack for the rest of the game. Trent Hunter added the fourth goal with less than a minute to go when the Bruins pulled their goalie for the extra skater.

The Bruins have now let up ten goals in their last two contests. “Those little details that meant so much to us being successful aren’t consistent right now,” said Bruins coach Claude Julien. “There’s not that confidence or determination we need to be successful. Right now we have to have our best players playing their best if we’re going to turn it around.”

Hopefully Boston can turn things around against the Atlanta Thrashers Thursday night. After heading to Atlanta they’ll travel north to square off against the Buffalo Sabres. Boston Bruins tickets are now available!

Panthers Edge Bruins In Shootout

It took a shootout for Florida Panthers Cory Stillman to score the only goal yesterday at the TD Garden, leaving the Boston Bruins with nothing to show for their 40 shot attempts on goalie Tomas Vokoun. Tim Thomas also had quite the performance in last night’s defensive showcase, holding the Panthers scoreless in regulation with 23 saves.

Despite their hard fought efforts, Thomas and the Bruins couldn’t help but share a bitter feeling after the disappointing loss. “We deserved the two points,” said Thomas. “They got some chances, but we got more. It is a little easier to take knowing that we won the last two.”

Forward Milan Lucic returned to practice on Thursday morning since breaking his right index finger mid-October. The B’s are scheduled for a tough matchup on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Following their stay in PA they’ll head back to Boston and host the New York Islanders on Monday, November 16th.

Bruins Shut Down Crosby, Penguins

After struggling on the offensive end last week, the Boston Bruins finally seem to have it all figured out. Saturday marked a successful win over the Buffalo Sabres, followed by the B’s dominating Sidney Crosby and the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers 3-0 yesterday at the TD Garden.

Crosby is in a bit of a slump himself, recording just two shots on the night. He’s now been left out of the stat book for the fifth consecutive contest.  Longtime veteran and former Penguin Mark Recchi knows the young phenom will be back in regular form soon enough. “It’s just one of those things where he’s in a rut right now,” said Recchi. “It won’t be very long he’ll be in it, I know that. He’s a great player and when they break out, they can go the opposite way, and everything they touch turns to goals.”

Matt Hunwick scored first for Boston 1:36 into the second period.  Daniel Paille and Patrice Bergeron supplied the bonus goals in the third. Tim Thomas denied all 27 Penguins shots on goal. The Bruins are next set to host the Florida Panthers this Thursday, November 12th at 7:00 PM.

Bruins Top Sabres 4-2

The goal hungry Boston Bruins finally found their offense with four goals against the Buffalo Sabres Saturday at the TD Garden. Marco Sturm was ecstatic and certainly showed it in the second period after scoring for the first time in over a month.  “A lot of guys were do,” said Sturm. “A lot of relief. As a forward you never want to go through that. Hopefully I can relax a little now.”

The B’s stacked the scoreboard in the first two periods and relied on defense from there. Jason Pominville knocked one more in for Buffalo late in the third but soon after the final horn sounded. The Sabres hold a 9-4 record so far this year but have recently struggled like the Bruins. “The greater issue is our game has lacked energy the last three games,” said Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff. “I think the old me might have gone irate and done something a little bit stranger. We’ve dealt with some sickness. We’re going to back off. We’re going to get the guys some rest.”

The Bruins are now scheduled to host the Pittsburgh Penguins in Boston tomorrow at 7:00 PM. Find great deals for Boston Bruins tickets right here at AceTicket.com!

Canadiens Win Over B’s In Shootout

The Boston Bruins avoided their third consecutive scoreless game with a Patrice Bergeron goal with just seconds remaining to test the Montreal Canadiens in overtime last night at the TD Garden. The shootout featured just one goal produced by Mike Cammalleri for the Habs to take this one 2-1. The Bruins have come up with just 11 goals collectively in their nine losses.

Players were definitely relieved to at least get on the board after a pair of dismal performances against the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. “At least it’s out of our heads now,” said Bergeron. “It’s one step forward to get that goal and get that point. But one point is not good enough.” Bergeron first found a way past goalie Carey Price with 2:25 left in the second period. The score was then taken away minutes later after review.

“In my head there was a moment where you go, ‘That figures,’” said Tim Thomas. “But then the other voice in my head rebounded right away and said, ‘No. We’re not going to say Here we go again. We’ve got to do something.’ I was trying to send some positive mental energy to the team to do something.”

Boston will now look forward to their next matchup against the Buffalo Sabres this Saturday at 7:00 PM. Boston Bruins tickets are now available!

Red Wings Light Up Bruins Early

Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom scored the only two goals in the first period for the Detroit Red Wings to handle the Boston Bruins Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena. Goalie Chris Osgood denied 29 Boston shot attempts, marking his 50th shutout and 394th career victory.

“I don’t put much merit in shutouts,” said Osgood. “The only thing they’re good for is that you know you have a great chance of winning the game. I grew up watching Grant Fuhr play and he was just about winning games, so that’s kind of my mentality.”

The Bruins after struggling in their last two games can only look ahead to matching up against the Canadiens this Thursday in Boston. Coach Claude Julien is done with the excuses, saying “we’re going to have to decide that we’re tired of hearing we had a good effort without winning.” After battling Montreal, the TD Garden will then play host to the Buffalo Sabres. Lundqvist, Rangers Shut Out Bruins

Goalie Henrik Lundqvist held the Bruins scoreless with 29 saves as Marian Gaborik scored the only goal in the second period for New York to win yesterday at Madison Square Garden. Tim Thomas came up with 22 saves, but the one he missed was all it took for the 9-5 Rangers to skate away with a victory in the books.

“Lundqvist was solid, but their team D was pretty good. Both teams’ D was good,” said Thomas. “Can you think of an odd-man rush for either team? You’d like to win them all, but we’re headed in the right direction. Even if every game we’re not getting the results.”

Both teams failed to score on power play opportunities (Bruins 0-for-5/Rangers 0-for-2). Boston put six more shots on goal but never found a gap through Lundqvist. They are now 6-6 heading into Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. Find the best deals for Boston Bruins tickets right here at AceTicket.com!

Devils Edge Bruins In Final Minutes

The New Jersey Devils were able to slip two goals by goalie Tim Thomas, the go-ahead score with just over a minute to play for them to battle over the Boston Bruins 2-1 last night at the TD Garden. Despite collecting 25 saves, the only moments in Thomas’s mind were the two that got by. “I was pretty sure I didn’t have the first one,” said Thomas. “The second one I thought maybe I did for a second and by the time I could check, there was nothing I could do.”

Patrice Bergeron scored the only goal for Boston on a rebound from Marco Sturm’s hard backhand attempt. The B’s had their share of chances in the final stretch of the game with a few shots on goal (one of which was denied by the post). “We are never happy with losing games,” said defenseman Derek Morris. “It was one bounce that went the wrong way, but I thought we had a hard effort tonight.” The Bruins are now 5-5-1 heading into Saturday’s game in Boston against the Edmonton Oilers. The following day they will travel to New York to meet up with the Rangers before the Redwings host them in Detroit on Tuesday.
