American Idol frontrunner and Marstons Mills local Siobhan Magnus produced one of the top performances yesterday in the first round that featured the top 12 contestants. The song she selected was “Paint It Black” due to this week’s dedication to the Rolling Stones. Instead of treating her time on stage as another typical audition, the 19-year old configured the best lighting, emotion and overall stage presence.
“You rise above,” said Ellen DeGeneres. “You just stand out, and I like it.” Simon Cowell then made clear that Magnus and Crystal Bowersox are the two favorites until anyone else can prove him wrong. “I think it was the standout performance of the night,” said Cowell. “You look interesting. It’s almost like you’re going to have to now scream at the end of every song. But it kind of worked.” Siobhan’s performance can be viewed below. Check back for American Idol Season 9 Live tickets!
Recent Berklee College of Music graduate Ashley Rodriguez is currently representing the 31 singers to advance from Boston in this year’s season of American Idol. Following Tuesday’s episode, Simon Cowell, Idol’s toughest judge has already stated her as a season 9 “front-runner.” Rodriguez immediately showcased her passion for singing during her initial audition when she delivered a version of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You.”
“I’ve been singing ever since I was little,” said Rodriguez. “I grew up doing it in church and school. It just seems natural.” Ashley is one of four selected from Berklee to make it past the first round. Other Berklee Hollywood Idol contestants this year include Bosa Mora, Jess Wolfe and Jennifer Hirsh. Look for Ashley’s first audition below and check back for American Idol concert tickets!
American singer Paula Abdul has just recently announced that she will not be returning as a judge for American Idols ninth season. She first publicly addressed her decision through her twitter page that states: “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #IDOL.” She continued to write on behalf of the show, saying “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all… being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon.” Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest, and Kara DioGuardi have all agreed to contract terms for next season.
Abdul was not able to compromise with Fox producers, saying “I hope you can understand I can only return to Idol if the deal is fair.” Paula will certainly be missed, but the show must go on. Don’t miss the chance to see your favorite American Idols perform at the TD Banknorth Garden on Tuesday, August 18th. “American Idols Live” will feature fan favorites Kris Allen and Adam Lambert along with the talented Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, and Allison Iraheta.
