Celtics Host Chicago Bulls Tonight

The Boston Celtics will host a much improved Chicago Bulls club tonight. The Bulls come in at 1-0 on the year after an impressive opening night win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The young Bulls team has high expectations for their number one overall pick in the draft, Derrick Rose. After a tough 33-49 season last year, the Bulls should manage a winning record in ‘08-’09.  They’ll have a tough battle tonight though as the defending champs try to duplicate last year’s strong start that saw them go 8-0 out of the gate.

The Celtics expect to be looser right from the opening tip tonight. In Tuesday’s home opener against the Cavs, an emotional Celtics squad started slow, only to clamp down in the 2nd half. With the festivities of opening night and banner raising behind them the Celtics are now ready to focus on defending their title.

Great Celtics tickets are available for tonight’s game. Check it out.

Celtics Upcoming Schedule:
Celtics vs Bulls 10/31
Celtics at Pacers 11/1
Celtics at Rockets 11/4
Celtics at Thunder 11/5
Celtics vs Bucks 11/7

Sox Eyeing Japan's Kenshin Kawakami

Formerly of the Chunichi Dragons of the Japan Central League, righty Kenshin Kawakami may be the next Japanese Pitcher to make the move to Boston. Kawakami seems like a potential #4-5 starter, and brings a lot to the table. Just two years ago, Kawakami walked a miniscule 21 batters in 190 innings of work. He can consistently strike batters out (over a strikeout per inning this season) and induces a lot of ground balls.

At 33 years old, Kawakami has his first taste of free agency, and seems to be leaning towards Boston.

After a ring ceremony that brought Celtics’ vet Paul Pierce to tears, Boston went to the task of defending their title. The Cavaliers, Boston’s opponent in the Eastern Conference Finals, looked to avenge their game 7 loss in last year’s playoff run.

The Celtics held Lebron James to a somewhat un-Lebron-like 22 points, 7 rebounds, and six assists (along with three turnovers). The Cavs held the lead at the half, but the Celtics’ dominant 24-13 third quarter gave them the boost they needed to overtake Cleveland. Pierce led the Celtics in scoring with 27, followed by Rajon Rondo with 14 and Leon Powe with 13.

Boston outshot Cleveland 46.6% to 42.6% in what proved to be a close and exciting season opener.  The Celtics next game is scheduled for Friday night, October 31st against the Chicago Bulls.

There wasn’t much offense in Vancouver last night. No complaints from the Boston Bruins though, who only needed Michael Ryder’s 1st period goal to take care of the Canucks. The win put the Bruins at 5-2-3 on the year and earned Tim Thomas his second consecutive shutout. His 31 saves were good for 1st star honors. Meanwhile Roberto Luongo stopped 29 Bruins shots in his losing effort for the Canucks.

The Bruins will play the Calgary Flames in Calgary this Thursday before returning to the TD Banknorth Garden on 11/1 to host the Dallas Stars. Great Bruins tickets are still available for all games. Check them out now at Boston’s source, Ace Ticket.
