Sabres Battle through Penguins

Posted by Ace Staff on December 30th, 2009 in Sports

Drew Stafford rallied his Buffalo Sabres back with two goals after being down 3-0 in the second period. From there Paul Gaustad and Jason Pominville got in on the scoring action for Buffalo to win over the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 yesterday at HSBC Arena.

“It comes back to how you respond,” said Stafford. “It’s being professional about it, not feeling sorry for yourself. It’s just going back to work. I was very fortunate enough to get some breaks tonight. I’ll take it.” Pittsburgh came to play early with two goals in the first period compliments of Jordan Staal and Bill Guerin. Chris Kunitz then found the net 1:28 into the second before the Sabres eventually took control.

“A three-goal lead and we didn’t put it away. That’s what happens when you let teams hang around,” said Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. “We worked pretty hard and probably deserved better.” Pittsburgh will next take on the New Jersey Devils tonight as the Sabres play host to the Atlanta Thrashers New Year’s Day.
