Ray Allen came through with 22 points and six assists to lead the depleted Boston Celtics lineup past the Philadelphia 76ers 84-80 Wednesday at the TD Garden for their 14th consecutive victory. Boston has been battling without Rajon Rondo (ankle sprain), Kendrick Perkins (ACL surgery), Jermaine O’Neal (sore left knee) and Delonte West (fractured wrist). The C’s have also found ways to win in select games throughout the streak without Shaquille O’Neal (calf), Semih Erden (groin), Nate Robinson (foot) and Glen Davis (illness).
“We’ve won games in the 100s; we’ve won games in the 80s. And we’re just finding ways to grind it out cause we don’t have the healthy bodies,” said Boston captain Paul Pierce. “You don’t know who’s going to be in there night-in and night-out.”
Pierce missed his first seven shots on the night but finished with 11 points, providing the key spark with 5:18 left in the fourth when he came up with the steal and finished strong at the hoop to pull the Celtics within two. Shaquille O’Neal and Kevin Garnett produced a collective 25 points and 16 rebounds inside. Boston will next matchup with the Orlando Magic Christmas Day at the Amway Center.
