Patriots Close to Division Title

Posted by Ace Staff on December 22nd, 2009 in Sports

The New England Patriots are closing in on their first goal of the 2009-2010 season. After earning their first true road victory against the Buffalo Bills while the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins fell to their respective opponents, the Pats find themselves just one win away from wrapping up the AFC East Division.

Quarterback Tom Brady was relieved to finally prove successful away from his own stomping grounds, saying “It’s pretty embarrassing to not have a road win into the middle of December. That’s something that I think has been really bothering all of us. It was definitely good to get that (Sunday in Buffalo).”

Sunday’s matchup certainly wasn’t the prettiest of contests, but it showcased the Patriots as a team that can in fact close out games in the fourth quarter. Brady and Wes Welker connected on a crucial third down play with two minutes left to finally put the game to rest. Randy Moss was able to find a rhythm following his dismal performance against the Carolina Panthers last week. Laurence Maroney has also been improving week by week through the most important stretch of the year.

“In the running game, being a downhill runner, when you make your read, you make your cut you go with it,” said Brady. “You run with explosion through the hole. And Laurence certainly has been doing a better job of that, as evidenced by the number of carries that he had and the amount of yards he’s gaining. He has done a good job these last few weeks and I think that was something we definitely needed. That is a big part of controlling the game also.”

New England is scheduled to meet up with the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday at Gillette. Their last game of the season will take place at Reliant Stadium against the Houston Texans January 3rd. New England Patriots tickets are now available right here at AceTicket.com!
