Rajon Rondo slammed home the go-ahead bucket with a minute left in regulation for the Boston Celtics to win over the Washington Wizards 104-102 Thursday at the Verizon Center. Ray Allen came up with 18 points to become the 32nd NBA player to score 20,000, while Paul Pierce collected 12 to reach the 19,000 total point mark. Allen and Pierce may have stole the show in regards to their career accomplishments, but it was Rondo who held them together to pull off their 9th straight victory.

“We believe we can win games in any situation, and that’s a good sign,” said Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. “Clearly their game plan was they weren’t going to guard him. They were going to give him shots, and he took them.” Boston was up as much as 14, collectively shooting 62.9 percent by the end of the half. Washington rallied back towards the end, but Boston’s veteran experience kicked in when it mattered to close out the game.

Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas despite his 25 point effort isn’t happy with the way things are going in Washington. “We get up for games like this. It’s the other games we have to start getting up for,” said Arenas. “Right now, we’re a bottom-feeder team.” The Wizards are scheduled to host the Indiana Pacers on Saturday as the Celtics head to Chicago to matchup against the Bulls.
