The score after one period of play between the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres last night stood at 4-3, which sounds more like a final score than a first period score.  It was the first time since 1995 that the Bruins have been involved in a seven goal first period.  The scoring wouldn’t stop there for the Bruins as they added four more goals to take a 7-4 win over Buffalo after trailing for much of the first period.

The offense started quickly for both teams last night.  Five goals were scored before 6 minutes of hockey were played.  Buffalo would hold the lead three different times in the first on goals by Jason Pominville, Derek Roy, and two by Thomas Vanek.  The Bruins would answer with three goals in the first by Chuck Kobasew, David Krejci, and Marc Savard.

The second and third periods were all Bruins as the Sabres seemed to run out of gas.  Bruins goalie Manny Fernandez also settled down nicely in the net and didn’t allow another goal after the 12:37 mark of the first period.  The Bruins got second period goals from Chuck Kobasew and Zdeno Chara who scored twice on power plays.  Phil Kessel added an insurance goal in the third period.

At 12-3-4 the Boston Bruins lead the North East Division and trail the Rangers by two points for the overall lead in the Eastern Conference.  The Bruins will host the Panthers on Friday night 11/21.  Bruins tickets are available for this game.
