Soon after the NBA Players Association rejected the league’s final offer for a labor contract, Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo confirmed his “Boston Charity Classic” all-star game for this weekend. The contest will be held at Lavietes Pavilion on Harvard’s Campus Saturday, November 19th at 6:00 PM.

Proceeds will support local Boston charities in providing meals for the holiday season. Celtics forward Paul Pierce and scoring champion Kevin Durant will be headlining the event alongside Rondo. Also expected to participate is Glen “Big Baby” Davis, JaJuan Johnson, former Celtic Kendrick Perkins in his return to Boston, former Harvard star Jeremy Lin, ex-Celtics Leon Powe and Marquis Daniels.

Rondo has also recruited Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies, Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks and Kyle Lowry of the Houston Rockets. This may be one of Boston’s only chances to see NBA players in action due to the ongoing lockout. Rondo stated in a recent interview that the players are “pretty unanimous” in their decision to disband.

“There’s some mixed emotions but this is what’s best for the league, it’s what’s best for our players,” he said. ”We have to stand together. It’s not about the Boston Celtics selfishly wanting to play this year, it’s about what’s best for us as a unit.” “It’s definitely difficult but right now I think it’s what we have to do.”
