Celtics vs. Wizards Preview

The Boston Celtics will host the Washington Wizards this Wednesday night at 7:30PM. The two teams just faced off this past Saturday in Washington where the Celtics captured their first win of the season. The Wizards entered the game with a 0-1 record after dropping their season opener last Tuesday in Cleveland. The Celtics were 0-2 after losing to both the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks.

In Saturday’s game, the Celtics used defensive stands early. The Wizards were down and the Celtics, though not playing tremendously well, were in the lead. The Celtics held them 1-for-12 shooting at the start and the defense gave great intensity.

“Our starts are so bad, you don’t know if you’re ever going to see the daylight again,” Wizards coach Tandy Wittman said after watching his team fall behind Boston. “I didn’t know if the sun was coming up tomorrow. I truly didn’t. That’s how bad it was to me, sitting there.”

The Wizards regained their strength, however. Cartier Martin scored five consecutive points during a 16-4 run that put Washington ahead 86-84 with just under three minutes remaining.

“You don’t want to give teams any life,” Pierce said for the Celtics. “Today we gave them life and they had a shot at us.”

Then Pierce made a 3-pointer to put Boston back in front. The Celtics just barely won, finishing the game with a score of 89-86. Celtics guard Rajon Rondo commented on this saying, “Our defense put us in the situation to get where we were at. We didn’t shoot the ball well tonight. We had a lot of easy shots we missed. We can’t control that, but what we can control is our effort on the defensive end and we did that tonight.”

“When you lose two games in a row and you play as poorly as we did last night, you’re either going to come out with great intensity or we’re still going to be thinking about last night and get down 20,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “That cushion won the game for us.”

Hopefully the Celtics have regrouped in their days off and can come back for another win against the Wizards on Wednesday at TD Garden. You can get your tickets here with Ace!
