R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys will be showcasing her talents on the Broadway circuit, set to compose and co-produce the upcoming production of “Stick Fly.” The show focuses on interactions within a wealthy African-American family in Martha’s Vineyard, where two sons bring their respective love interests home to meet their parents for the first time. Opening night is scheduled for Thursday, December 8th at New York City’s Cort Theatre.
The cast includes movie actor Mekhi Phifer, television actor Dulé Hill and stage veteran Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Keys, a 14-time Grammy Award-winner, is thrilled at the opportunity to be involved in a Broadway production.
“To produce a play like this is a dream come true for me,” she posted on AliciaKeys.com. “And to have the chance to share this play with an audience, night after night, in a beautiful theater, on the streets that I walked everyday as a kid with only ‘a pocket full of dreams’…can only be described as modern-day magic.” Check back for more theatre updates here at Ace!
