The New York Rangers were up on the Toronto Maple Leafs by just one goal heading into the third. After Sean Avery’s goal two minutes into the period, the festivities continued for the Rangers as they eventually went on to win 7-2 last night in New York. “We had a great start to the second period, but then it was like we stopped playing,” said Rangers forward Vaclav Prospal. “After two periods Torts came in and he wasn’t really happy. We responded the right way, took the play back to them, scored the fourth goal right away. It was a lot easier after that.”

Throughout the Rangers offensive party yesterday, eight players were able to earn at least one point.  Defenseman Dan Girardi and Sean Avery both scored twice with Wade Redden adding a goal and two assists. Ryan Callahan and Marian Gaborik also scored for New York. Goalie Henrik Lundqvist came up with 27 saves. The Rangers will next host the Los Angeles Kings before heading to Toronto to rematch the Maple Leafs.
